January 2014 Exercise Tracking Blog

Thursday, January 02, 2014

This blog entry will be constantly updated just so I can see all of it in one shot.

Note all "Insanity" workouts are modified to low-impact and push-ups modified to wall pushups...whatever I need to do to get a great workout. No jumping for me!

Wed Jan 01 - "Insanity" Fitness Test. Within calorie allotment.
Thu Jan 02 - "Insanity" day 2, shoveled snow for 40 min. Within calorie allottment.
Fri Jan 03 - "Insanity" day 3, "Just Dance" Wii with my son for 45 min. Within calorie allottment.

***** Weigh In: - .8 since 1/01
***** Measurements: Recorded on 1/2/2014 as baseline
***** Non-Scale Victory (NSV): Feeling the "good sore" from finally using muscles; drinking lots of water and skin is looking better (fewer break-outs).

Sat Jan 04 - "Insanity" pure cardio @ 11 p.m. (COMMITTED!! and a bit crazy). Over calorie allottment.
Sun Jan 05 - "Insanity" plyo cardio workout. Over calorie allottment.
Mon Jan 06 - "Insanity" cardio & resistance. Within calorie allottment. (Already feeling stronger!)
Tue Jan 07 - "Insanity" pure cardio in the a.m. and again in p.m. Within.
Wed Jan 08 - "Insanity" cardio circuit. Within.
Thu Jan 09 - My birthday so took all measurements to compare with next year's birthday. Lost 2.6 lbs since last Friday. Inches measured on 1/2, so in one week lost total 3.25 inches. "Insanity" plyo cardio. Slightly under allotted calories. :-/
Fri Jan 10 - 55 min walk with dog.

***** Weigh In: -3.8 lbs
***** Measurements: -3.25 inches
***** Non-Scale Victory (NSV): Recovering faster from cardio workout, workbench push-ups are improving in form, generally feeling better from healthier eating, tracking calories on a more regular basis.

Sat Jan 11 - "Insanity." Within (estimated...but close to meeting/over). Ate dinner out.
Sun Jan 12 - "Insanity." Within (very close estimate: close to over). Ate lunch out. Few bites of cake for birthday and grilled chicken wrap with much of the tortilla taken off and not eaten; one slice of pizza for dinner.
Mon Jan 13 - Walked the dog for 45 min. "Insanity" fit test. Within.
Tue Jan 14 - "Insanity" plyo cardio. Within.
Wed Jan 15 - "Insanity" pure cardio & abs. Within.
Thu Jan 16 - "Insanity" cardio recovery (yoga-ish). Possibly over.
Fri Jan 17 - "Insanity." Within.

***** Weigh In: -3.8 lbs (literally falling off with this exercise and nutrition!)
***** Measurements: -2.00"
***** Non-Scale VictorIES (NSV):
1) Ordered a kale salad for dinner when eating out on Saturday night.
2) ordered grilled chicken wrap and peeled off/didn't eat much of the flour tortilla, along with eating maybe 3 - 4 bites of chocolate fudge cake ordered at restaurant instead of eating whole slice
3) ate one slice of pizza on pizza night, and had a nice side salad and a black bean salad and water to prevent me from eating more than one slice
4) exercised at 9:30 p.m. to ensure I kept going after my January goal of being active every day for 30 days.
5) Broke freggies streak! WOOT!!!
6) Skipped "sit around and watch a movie" to exercise (MAJOR victory!)

Sat Jan 18 - "Insanity." Within.
Sun Jan 19 - None. Over.
Mon Jan 20 - "Insanity." Barely within...might have been over.
Tue Jan 21 - "Insanity." Within.
Wed Jan 22 - "Insanity." Within.
Thu Jan 23 - "Insanity." Within.
Fri Jan 24 - None. Made it my day off. WAY over with calories... :-
***** Weigh In: -0.4 lbs (yes, I'm disappointed, but still losing inches. It WILL come off!)
***** Measurements: -1.25"
***** Non-Scale Victory (NSV): Feeling stronger during workouts and is marked difference in modified push-ups; heart rate recovering faster; better nutrition means I don't wake up "puffy" (my face and fingers are puffy when eating too much flour and drinking too much milk)
***** To fix for next week: Get more sleep every night

Sat Jan 25 - "Insanity." Within.
Sun Jan 26 - "Insanity." Within.
Mon Jan 27 - None. WAY over.
Tue Jan 28 - None. WAY over. Again. :-/
Wed Jan 29 - "Insanity." Over.
Thu Jan 30 - "Insanity." Under. (!)
Fri Jan 31 - "Insanity."
***** Weigh In: +0.2 lbs
***** Measurements: Same
***** Non-Scale Victory (NSV): Noticing a HUGE difference in my energy level and even bigger difference in my attitude when I eat the right foods!!!! Also, with the modified Insanity program, I am getting MUCH stronger!

SUMMARY
Total Days Active: 27 of 31 (87% of the month). :-)
Total Pounds Lost: 8.6
Total Inches Lost: 6.75
NSV's: All around feeling better and most days of the month, made better food choices.

Lessons Learned driving next month's goals:
Plan food the night before
Plan exercise the night before
Do exercise as early as possible in the day to get to bed on time
Pay extra attention to plan food for that one week of the month where I could eat everything in my cabinets.

This is a really good idea. I think if you can see at a glance your accomplishments and the days were you didn't quite measure-up, it will push you to have more accomplished days. Good luck to you!
