What is your word for the year 2014?

Thursday, January 02, 2014

I have been thinking that New Year’s Resolutions are not always successful or easy to keep. I wanted some way to focus my efforts for change this year but in a different way than a static list. ANGELCITYGAL mentioned that Oriah Mountain Dreamer (http://www.oriahsinvitation.b on her Facebook page recommended this week that her readers pick one word as a kind of theme or grounding point for the New Year. She also advised that it not be one of the "big" words like love, peace, or hope. She suggested we pick a "little" word, one that is perhaps more personal or more concrete. In that word, she says, contained all the big words, anyway.

I have read several other people suggesting this and some suggested words were
Growth, trust, move , focus , healthy , balance , diligent , fearless , grateful , restore , simplify, intentional, courage , renew , confidence , persevere , present , change , release. In thinking about what I want to do the word that appealed to me is DESTINATION.

This is a time in my life when I am looking at where I am and where I am going, what are the results I want. It just seems like the right word.

What's your word for the year?

Check out Life Out Loud blog for my inspiration.

Funny, I posted on my blog weeks ago that my word for 2014 was going to be PLAY. :-)

Destination is quite fitting. I've chosen 'transformation' because that's what I want in all aspects of my life. Have a great week and may 2014 hold much beauty and amazement for you. emoticon

I think this is a great idea. I love the list of words, and yours is also great.

I think, that I would like mine to be, preserver!

A great year coming for all of us.

I read an inspirational quote the other day, and the word that jumped out at me was:
I think I'll take this one - and will write it in the front of my diary to remind me!
I want to really enjoy my life, whatever's happening, to find the fun, joy and pleasure in every situation, to notice things in nature more profoundly............. yes, thanks for giving me the chance to think about this!

My word would be appreciation. I strive this year to look at the benefits of what happens even if it isn't the way I planned it to go. I want to see the best in what I have and believe that what happens to me has a higher purpose of which I might not be aware.

Great idea! It could be the remaining vacation vibe, but my words are all along the lines of "relax," "chill," and "unwind"!

What a great idea, and 'destination' is a fantastic word. I think mine might be 'trust', I need to think about that a little more. Thank you for sharing this idea with us, very inspiring!

Mine is 'strength'. I want to work on my physical strength (particularly upper body), but I also feel a need to focus on and build my mental and emotional strength. So that'll be me this year, getting strong in every way!

I love the idea of just one word. I can't quite give up last year's word....curiosity... But I want to add the word "resilience" for 2014.

i had been doing this practice for many years, but have been remiss these past couple of years, so i appreciate the reminder. i read "the dance" by oriah mountain dreamer a few months ago and look forward to rereading it soon. from my "top three" list for 2014 (kindness, tenderness, discernment), i believe i will focus on KINDNESS. thank you for the inspiration.
