Welcome 2014

Happy New Year! Well what a great year 2013 turned out to be.

It started kinda shaky with 5 surgeries in one week. Surgery one was a successful RNY but then two more the first day due to the liver biopsy hemorrhage. The third that day was for almost bleeding out that opened me from sternum to belly button. Two more surgeries later I got closed. The first week awake on a ventilator and the second week overcoming the immediate threat of death. Four months totally out of work. Four months part time work then an overwhelming return during the last part of the year. I am still digging out of the billing hole and getting my caseload back up to full time when boom next surgery for hernias developed due to the incision from the almost fatal liver hemorrhage in Jan 2013. The bonus was a tummy tuck along with the hernia surgery :).

The good news is I got better every single day after they closed me. I lost from 242 down to 135 in 10 months loosing 107 total pounds so far. I walked 2,385,689 steps, 1984 floors, 817.50 miles. since June 2, 2013. I have run 3 5K's (slowly but my times improved each time). My health status was raised a level and our insurance premiums decreased because of meeting the criteria! I want to run, wow, this is amazing for the woman who never ran a day in her life that she was not forced. I was healthy and athletic as a young woman until 2004 after my car accident (broke my Back, neck, and left arm) when I really gained weight.

My once sick looking but not diseased liver has been pronounced normal. No fatty liver disease for me the RNY was the cure for this. I am no longer on blood pressure medicine, my thyroid meds are cut in half and probably will always be needed, and I have just been cleared of all sleep apnea! No More C Pap. I will have to say I used it religiously every night after being diagnosed and slept and felt so much better. I was a little afraid to sleep without it but I have been medically cleared! All my LDL and HDL and other blood profiles look GREAT and were heading in a bad direction before the RNY surgery. I am wearing a size 8 loose but fit into Size 0 at Chico's during Christmas...lol.

This year my goals are to run at least three 5 k's, (Memory run, Woodstock, and Lincoln run) and begin the 5k to 10k program when the doctor clears me to start running, Build muscle, strengthening my core thighs and arms. Double my fitbit totals for this year starting today trying to hit that 10,000 step daily total and log in to my Humana fit my daily steps, Get the ifit up and running and log workouts on the elliptical that will count toward my Humana fit goals (health insurance step up goal for this next year), Use my Niki plus run app to log outdoor runs for Humana fit. I love that I can Sync my fitbit with sparkpeople and Humana fit. Also Niki and ifit sync with my Humana fit. I plan to continue to log on to spark people daily to sync my work out and keep up my blog. I love the support here and on bariatric facebook group I belong to. I am planning to get started on using Spark people video's and check out http://www.bodybuilding.com/ for some of this strengthening.

Looking forward to 2014 Woo Hoo!
