I almost didn't have a Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all. Today was especially good for me because I survived a very bad fall
from my Hoveround power chair on Sunday evening, and could have been a gonner. I wound up in the ER with a bad head bump and a gash requiring stitches in my leg. The cat scan said my head was okay, and the leg was patched up, but it was scary, and were it not for my Lifeline call button I could be lying on the floor in the corner of my dining room still. It was one of the scariest close calls I've had, and there have been several. My right leg has three stitched wounds, all requiring ambulance rides, and this latest one was to my left leg. I know God's been trying to get me to slow down, but as much as I try to cooperate, I keep barreling forward. I'm 69 but my head says 39. That's a big age gap to deal with, and I haven't figured it out yet. It also seems I'm not alone with this condition. Almost everyone of my peers that I talk to are going through the same thing. We're not only young at heart but young of mind as well! Who would have thought I'd still be attending Weight Watcher meetings at my age, blogging on a health and weight loss site like Spark People and still trying to lose weight? Didn't expect to be using a wheelchair either, but I am.
I didn't start out to write this blog about this subject, but as so often happens, it goes where its supposed to go and says what its supposed to say. a lot like life, right? The good news is that I put on a new long cotton knit lounge gown for today's brunch with the kids, and the smaller size that I had ordered over a month ago, before the arrival of all the holiday goodies fit me!!!YES IT DID! That made my day and inspired me to keep on keeping on into the new year, setting goals and going forward while I am still blessed with life!

Oh my!! Glad you are ok and that you have the life alert system! Sounds like you need a slower speed on that hoveround. Don't think they were made for squealing around corners and doing wheelies... emoticon just kidding! Glad you are ok though!

How did you fall from a Hoveround? Thank goodness for your Life Alert! I'm glad the story had a happy ending. Aren't you glad that medical personnel are available 365 days a year?

So glad the accident was not worse. I agree...we sometimes expect our bodies to do what they refuse to do at our age! Take care, my friend.

So glad that you are alright and that you had one of those things on you too. I have heard of them but never knew anyone that had one save them. Just seen the commercials about them. Glad to know that they really work.

Falling is NO fun at any age but it becomes much worse as we get older. Hope you get better soon

    Well YOW!!!

Fell from a Hoveround? I see ads for those chairs. Are they not safe?

I wear one of those LifeAlert buttons. I got it when my Sweetie came within a hair's breadth of losing his right arm. If I hadn't been in the house that day to call 911 (and at that time I was usually at Jazzercise) he would have had that arm amputated.

Do you think ol' Sweetie wears his "geezer button"?? NO. He doesn't. But I wear mine. I'm 72, and although I'm in good shape (I completed a 25K hike over three horrible mountains last April, don't ask me why, I was the oldest old lady to race) my balance isn't what I'd like it to be. And emergencies happen. I was felled by a hit-and-run virus, and if my Sweetie hadn't been there to call for help, I'd have had to use the "geezer button".

I'm in all favor of "geezer buttons" and wearing them 24/7.
