My First Three Weeks at SparkPeople

Sunday, December 22, 2013

All in all, wonderful!

I've lost a total of 5 pounds these three weeks, which would probably have been 2 pounds had I not signed up here. (Or possibly less!)

I've lost about an inch everywhere these last three weeks.

I thought I knew quite a lot about nutrition, but I've learned a whole lot!

I love water now! First and last thing I drink all day.

I've found some really fantastic recipes that are super healthy to add to our rotation. I think the family favorite was the leftover turkey spinach enchilada. MMMMM!

I've found some of the MOST supportive people I've ever met. I can honestly hear some of you encouraging me when I'm out and about. That or I'm mental.

I love tracking things and getting points and giving goodies. Ingenious to turn being healthy and losing weight into a game!

I gained a lot of confidence. I refused a lot of junk food and sweets. One night, DH brought home a box of candy a customer had given him. I had half a bite of a candy and asked him to take the box back to work. I knew if I ate those I would not lose weight and that was more important to me than having chocolate. (Although it was homemade from a family shop here in town and it was AMAZING!)

The only negative to report is my knees. I know I've complained a lot about my knees and I am sorry for that. They've been pretty bad. When they first got hurt I went through a mini depression. Upset, depressed, worried, anxious. All I wanted to do was go for a walk! But I kept telling myself to rest, rest, rest, keep tracking, keep eating healthy and not freak out.

I rested quite a lot. Maybe too much? I don't even know, but I didn't lose any weight at all this week. They are still sore but I made a slow 20 minute walk yesterday and I felt like my knees were moving properly for the first time in a few weeks. I've been doing upper body/core things that didn't stress my knees too.

So onto next week and Christmas! I REALLY wish I was 100% so I could take a nice long walk with my ma on Xmas, but a short walk will be fun too. I spent the last three days covering the living room in paper chain links and paper snowflakes. It kinda looks amazing. I went through like a ream of paper! LOL

I hope all you lovely Spark People have a wonderful, healthy and most of all SAFE week!

Congrats on your 5# loss in 3 weeks! That's especially amazing considering your knees are healing from an injury. Let your knees heal. Don't push them. There's a fine line between "injured and rest will help you heal quicker" and "injured and moving will help you heal quicker" ... I'm sorry you have to walk that line so early on ... make a God-send out of it - and use the knee-pain to fuel your most stubborn, obstinate and DETERMINED level of "Nuh-uh" when the goodie-pushers show up with treats.

And I'm with you - SP setting up the site so weight-loss, fitness and healthy habits are the way to "win" the game is ingenious!

Welcome to Spark People and Merry Christmas!
