Water Water Everywhere

My knees are still hurting but not nearly as badly. We'll see what I can do today.

I thought I'd write about water. I used to HATE water. Honestly, it was like torture trying to drink it. DH would remind me to drink more I even admit to "accidentally" spilling some water so it looked like I had had some ... but only once in awhile!

When I decided to get healthy this time around I knew I'd have to tackle this water issue. I would drink a glass or two a day and it was awful! lol But when I joined spark people and those 5 points were so easy to get I knew I had to drink my water!

Something funny happened. I started reaching for water before I reached for a diet soda. I started to crave a big glass of cold water. It was so weird, an admitted water hater becoming a water lover. It really took about a week to kick in, so once again that old saying that it takes a week to form a habit seems to be true for me.

So here's a few of the tricks I used to get myself to drink more water. I'm not saying any one else should follow them, just this is what works for me.

- Have a glass of water on hand at all times. If it's right there, you're going to drink more.
- Drink a glass of water before you drink any thing else in the morning.
- Drink a glass of water between other drinks, bites at meals, etc
- Take medications with water. I have to take a few a day so there's at least a glass.
-Have a glass of water on the bedside table.
-I know a lot of people add things to their water like fruit juices or vitamins or whatever but I just like plain cold water.

Basically what that all boiled down to was replacing diet soda with water. It was a bit of a challenge at first, but I'm really happy that I can drink my water!

(The only drawback is DH figured out I wasn't drinking nearly as much water as I had previously led him to believe because he has to replace the water jug more than once a week now! lol)

    You are doing great!! I keep a straw in my water also. Easier for me to drink, on my way to here and there even.

    way to go!!. i'm at the computer most of the time and keep a small water jug close by. I try to drink half by mid afternoon (about 6c)..a mind game and keeps me on track with the water. i find myself also reaching for it unconsciously even when i'm not thirsty..or at least I don't feel like I am. You're doing great...keep it up!! emoticon emoticon

    I drink lots of water but not as much as I would like to. I stopped drinking soda several years ago due to bloating and IBS. I just don't buy it except if we are having company. Great blog!

    Thank you! Honestly, it was hard at first. Maybe make it harder to get to the sodas than to the water? I put my soda in the garage, this obviously won't work if you're in a very cold area lol You can do it!

    How about a glass of water while you're reading sparkpeople? Have you had some today? ;)
