My First Week of SparkPeople.com
Friday, December 13, 2013
In August 2013 I started walking 10 minutes a day 5 days a week and started adding more distance every week. I'd gotten into the habit of walking every day, making sure my pedometer read at least 10,000 steps a day, but it was time to start adding better nutrition to my life.
On December 1st, I started researching and I stumbled upon sparkpeople.com At first it really seemed too good to be true. Surely all this information, tracking, videos, articles, forums - surely it wasn't free. But it was! And it was right up my alley. It was almost like a game; how many points can I get in one day? Can I get more points today than I did yesterday?
I can say that a week and a half later and sparkpeople is amazing! I end up walking more because I want to gain more points. The food tracker is awesome because if I'm hungry I can easily see how many cal/fat I have left in the day and what nutrients I still need. The meal suggestions and recipes are fantastic, especially on days I just can't think what to cook.
I used to say I HATED water. I'd tried several several times before to add more water to my day but it was almost a chore. A week and a half later I find myself reaching for water before a diet soda, I've even started to crave water! It started off with me just wanting to get those points but now I barely think about it.
I love the forums. I haven't been to very many, but the ones I frequent are full of some of the most supportive people I've ever met - online or off.
Before I joined sparkpeople I was losing about half a pound a week. A respectable loss and within the general guidelines for safe weight loss. Well, my first week at sparkpeople I lost a little over 2 pounds! It's the first site I visit first thing in my morning to help me plan my day.
Honestly, some times I still feel like this site is too good to be true. But I KNOW that having everyone here in my corner is going to help me. I CAN do this. I WILL be 200 pounds by May. And I will have everyone here to thank.
