Organization is a challenge for me. Clutter wise. I over pile myself, my todo list, my car, my house, etc. I've come a long way in the past few years. I've gotten rid of a lot from clothes to things to people to obligations to resentment, etc etc etc. I've had the unfortunate luck of moving a lot in the last year and a half (four times! ick) which makes the amount of access things I have even more noticeable as the totes go from place to place in which at times some of them weren't unpacked or sorted.
I FINALLY went through about 6 big totes of things a week and a half ago and I'd say I pitched or donated more than half of the things in it and found some things I'd been missing. This turned on a switch inside me that made me want to do this to every inch of my house. So I went through my two closets in the coming days and then my night stand drawer and even then to my other clothing drawers. I've even gone back into some of these things and gotten rid of even more things and I want to do this again and again. I feel like I am nesting and it has become something I look forward to and even consider it to be a form of relaxation.
While cleaning my bedside drawers I found one of my bill books I thought was long gone. The next day I bought a new 2014 calendar which sadly enough felt like Christmas because I'm so excited to have things laid out. It's also nice to have a new one as I had my previous one for 2012/2013 so it's gotten pretty beat up. I like to be able to track appointments, my photography schedule and my workouts along with todo lists and have it all in one spot. This book I bought is a little bigger which will allow more room for what I enjoy using it for.
So I thought, at least for myself, that it'd be neat to track my success along the way and to have a goal to have EVERYTHING in my house sorted and organized by the end of December. Why wait for spring cleaning?? This includes:
My daughters dressers
My daughter's toys
My closet/shoes 12/15/13
Bin of clothes that need tried on for myself 12/15/13
Bin of clothes that need tried on for my daughter-completed
Hall closet 1 12/21/13
Hall closet 2
Livingroom closet 12/16/13
Deep clean Bathroom/sort drawers-1/12/14
Deep clean kitchen/sort fridge-1/13/14
Get filing cabinet
19 days left of 2013. I can do this!
Update 12/27/13 Ok only 4 days left of the year. I am not as far as I wanted to be but still ahve gotten some things done. I've gotten most of the closests done and my storage bins as well as all the laundry sorted and clean from those bins. Phew! Sunday and Monday will be a good time to get things done. I feel like my schedule is so packed so that is another thing I need to get under control.
1/14/14 I let a friend stay with me for about a month and a half while she dealt with a break up and found a new home. She moved out Saturday and came to get the last of her things last night. When I got hoome I realized just how much I have gotten rid of and organized. Without her stuff there it made it so much more apparent and it felt great. Last night one of the first things I did was clean out my fridge so I could not only make room for more groceries but also get rid of the things she left behind that she didn't want. Wow what total difference we have in eating. I was able to convince her to sub certain things such as Greek yogurt for sour cream and was able to get her to workout again but I didn't have the total impact I wanted to but hey it's a start!
Back to me..I still have a ways to go but the extreme difference is amazing. I still have things on my list I want to complete especially the garage but right now I can't stand being in the garage for longer than a minute in this cold. Each day things get more cleared out which makes it easier to do quick cleaning and straightening at the end of the day. And when moving time comes this summer it'll be a lot easier.
