Fear of the unknown

I sit here wondering why my body is hating me right now. I am off to the sports doctor tomorrow to have my knee looked at. I am beyond terrified of what I am going to find out. Deep down I have a feeling that something is torn; either meniscus or something else. I am praying, that whatever it is, it is a short rehab period.

I have gone from running 60-80+ miles per week to not running at all. It has been extremely hard for me to not run. I was able to walk(about 11 minute miles) until about a week ago and now that is painful. emoticon

I am saying many prayers for something that is relatively simple to fix and I can get out and hit the pavement again. Even though the temps and wind chill are in the -20's, I miss running outside and want to get out into it again.

    Glad you got a good prognosis! It's hard to make yourself do all the preventing stretching and strengthening (I'm fighting an issue that is directly related to NOT doing all that good stuff). Good luck! emoticon

    Update from the doctor:

    Went to the doctor this afternoon and found out that nothing is torn, thank goodness. However, I have a severely irritated IT band and my hips are majorly out of alignment. I have to do 2 weeks of physical therapy to strengthen my IT band and hip muscles. Also the therapy will help train my hip muscles to go back to where they are suppose to be without semi-monthly trips to the chiropractor. I also have to foam roll and do cross training. I also have to be much better at stretching and warming up my legs by doing lateral movements, such as grapevines and side lunges before I start running. The best news of the afternoon was that I should be able to start running in about 3 weeks, which is just in time to start training for the Fargo Marathon.

    I am so excited that nothing is torn and ready to work my butt off in therapy so I can get back out running!

    Think positively. It's terrifying to not know what is going on but it may be something minor that can be healed quickly. If not, you will recover and get back to running. It's hard missing out on something you love but maybe you can find another activity you love just as much in the meantime!
