Christmas lights in our yard

Monday, December 02, 2013

Hi all, DH and I have completed day 1 of 2 days of putting out/up our outdoor Christmas decorations. Someone asked me to put some pics out there for y'all, so I will. They are of last year's decorations. I confess, we do the same thing each year so there's nothing new execpt this year there will be no nativity scene. The nativity scene we've used for several years was torn apart last year by the fierce winds we get every winter, and we looked for a replacement last week. Would you believe, the only one we found (in seven different stores) was a blow-up version with the Peanuts characters. It's still in the store.

There's one more place to look for an outdoor nativity, but I'm not certain when we'll get down to York, PA. Probably not this week.

What we did find plenty of, were lighted penguins, bears, angels (already have some) and PINK PIGS - one on skis. Pray tell, what self-respecting, God-fearing Jew would have had pigs in the stable? So what do pigs have to do with Christmas?!!

We have a couple of wooden snowmen, a pole with lights to make it look like a tree, a sleigh with two reindeer 'pulling' it and wooden candy canes with lights attached to the tops. Since we live on a corner, there are a LOT of candy canes. : ) DH and I made them in years past, and that was a labor of love. LOL

Ok, I had some trouble uploading pics ("file too big"). I couldn't upload some I really wanted to, but these give you some idea of what we do.

Think snow for Christmas!

Love your decorations! I used to decorate like that but now I live in an apartment and have no yard. Just a small patio with no place for decorations.
    It looks great! Happy Holidays!

    Beautifully done!

It's awful about a nativity scene being hard to find. It's a sign of the times, though. Who knows if we will even be allowed this time next year to display them at all?

Really beautiful decorations Nancy! I agree with you on the pigs! If it's not traditional Christmas decorations and colors, I don't want it! Christmas has become much too commercialized and not about Jesus anymore, with most people. It really makes me sad to see it. Good luck finding a new nativity scene, like you, I have seen very few that I like. You might try Bronners.com, it is a year round Christmas store in Frankenmuth, Michigan, and I think you can order for Christmas until December 17. Good luck! emoticon

It's so beautiful! You have a very attractive house and yard. I love the tree you made out of lights. It's "fuller" than I expected. You and dh put in a lot of work, obviously. No wonder it takes a couple days.
Get warm and rest well. Thanks for taking the time to post the beautiful photos.

It all looks lovely and I can understand why it takes 2 days! I am making things simpler and easier here-partly because some of our decorations have met a sad fate and partly because it gets to be way too much work. Finding new decorations that will last is evidently an effort in futility. We are not having much luck. I am hoping we will get lucky at some yard sales or thrift stores this year and can get some replacement things. Storage is always an issue too-we have a small storage unit and it has to house all the decorations we use and things the social club stores too.
