Thanksgiving Day

Friday, November 29, 2013

Well, I was planning a quiet Thanksgiving Day with my two sons and their Dad. And really it was - just seemed long and i was really tired when everyone did leave.

Their Dad come about 1 and we ate about 2 - dinner was quite simple - turkey and the trimmings (dressing, masked potatoes, and gravy) and, of course, pink stuff. We do not have cable tv - so no football. But Dick does like his football on Thanksgiving so he suggested that he and our oldest go looking for one of those antenna that will let you watch tv channels on a computer.

So while they were gone, I cleaned up the dishes and put away the food. They returned just as I was finishing. While they were hooking up our new toy, I fixed the whipped cream for the pumpkin pie and served it. And the pie was really good - even the crust - I have tried all the recipes and still do not make a good crust, but this one really was good. Even the boys commented on it. hee hee.

Then just as i was settling in to do some knitting, my daughter, her husband and their 2 daughters stopped by. They were here for about an hour. I had not had them for dinner, because our apartment is just not big enough to have all of the family. Have done it before and it is way too much for this ol' lady. And, with my oldest son ill, I knew it would be too much for him.

Finally after everyone left, Greg and I settled in to watch another episode of StarGate Universe. We have been watching the series from the first StarGate - has been fun. Some of it i have really enjoyed - this particular series is not that entertaining, but just watching with Greg is so relaxing and comforting.

Greg is my oldest and has terminal cancer - caused by smoking most of his life. He has had all the radiation and chemo - and the doctor told him there is little more that they can do for him, but just to keep him comfortable. We do have an amazing doctor as his primary care - and she is so encouraging. Last night Greg was very tired after everyone left, but he said he did enjoy the day. And he did lay down a couple of times.

Now we are thinking about what we will do for Christmas. I have suggested that instead of a big dinner with a gift exchange, that we just get together a few times during the month, have a few snacks and watch some of the animated Christmas movies. And everyone thinks that would be fun. So Sunday we will be at my daughter's to watch The Little Drummer Boy. Now I need to get out my Christmas boxes and find the movies that I have.

I do pray everyone had a good Thanksgiving Day.
