Attitude of Gratitude Challenge - DAY ONE
Tuesday, November 26, 2013
This is a challenge to think of one thing in our lives each day to be grateful for, one that we normally wouldn't see as a blessing or be grateful for. It is an exercise in seeing your life from a different perspective.
I am grateful for being an only child, and the rather lonely childhood it created. We moved alot so I had to keep starting over making friends. When we went on trips I had no one to play with, at home, again, no one to play with. No one to start the new schools with. Just me and my folks on holidays. Now, no brothers or sisters to help with my parents as they age, and mom with alzheimers.
Now for the blessing part. Because I was lonely and alone alot, I had to learn to deal with being alone. I learned to keep myself busy and happy. I learned to like being alone as well as with people. I learned to love books and animals, my always there best friends. :) Now, as an adult I am never, ever bored. I have a million things I want to do, never enough time. Mom used to say there needed to be 3 of me! When DH is gone I am fine and content with my lot because I know how to deal with being alone. All those difficult times prepared me for some difficult times in my adult life and helped me to cope much better. Sometimes hard things in retrospect can turn into large blessings.
May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving, with many, many gifts of gratitude to be thankful for!
