Pampering gone wrong

Monday, November 25, 2013

I rarely have the privilege of being pampered from childhood upward, so when a client recently wanted to do something nice for me in return for sorting out some business for her, she suggested she gives me some hair pampering at her home.
A nice head massage along with a blow wave.

Well, this sounded ABSOLUTELY marvelous to me.

So today, I turned up precisely at 1 pm as requested and she began by washing my hair and then did the head massage....it was TO DIE FOR. My word, I had to work hard at not drooling like a fool. After the head massage, she put my hair in these HUGE rollers.

And that is when the pampering went wrong. She dried my hair in the rollers and then couldn't get them out. I have no idea what she did, but to get these rollers out, she had to hold my hair and literally tear the stupid things out. It was so sore. I am a wash and leave my hair to dry naturally woman. Having my hair ripped out from the roots holds no appeal.
It was so bad, at one point I actually felt nauseous.

To give her her due, she felt terrible and put some soothing music on her dstv but of course that did NOT help me feel soothed one bit. emoticon

She really felt bad and repeatedly told me my hair is like an Indian woman's hair, which of course meant nothing to me. I dont go feeling Indian woman's hair all day long???
Did she mean they endure their hair being ripped out each time they have a hairdo?
Finally she got the last of the rollers out and then proceeded to use a flat iron on my hair.

Now, please understand that it was 34C (93F) in George today and having a flat iron steaming around my face and burning my ears...again held no appeal. I sound difficult to please, but heck....this was not what I anticipated. After that heated experience, she used a spiral tong. In the meanwhile, it was after 5pm my hubby was home and I was still sitting stuck at this ladies house. I text him to explain my plight and asked him to feed the dogs and wait patiently for my return.

The pampering....if it could be called that in the end....ended at 6.15pm...RIDICULOUS.
By then I was grumpy, hungry and just wanted out of there, while still trying to be pleasant and polite because I do realize that she did not mean to hurt me.

So...was it worth it?
This is 6 hrs and 15 minutes worth of wretched hairdo.

Wish there was some calories burned from pain endurance emoticon
Sadly I did not make it to boot camp this morning because of the heat, but knowing that the weather report said it would cool down in the evening, I planned to go to Fit club at 6.30 pm which I didn't make due to the pampering.

Now, while I imagined and yearned for pampering, I think I have been cured FOR LIFE.

Sorry that the pampering turned into torture. Your hair looked nice after all was said and done. Maybe next time, just stop at the head massage.

Well celest I do think the hair looks nice !!! :-) I do roller sets all the time on my hair, when I had long hair the process could get me close to 3 hours, and if you go to a salon it wAs all day, because they took several people at ones, so what you experience is normal for some many of us, in this case myself, I guess she used the wrong size of roller sets, and the wrong material, for the type of hair that you have, it could get easily tangle, so if it help you to feel better you are not alone :-)

How sad that something meant to be kind and generous went so terribly wrong. I am always leery of someone doing something to my hair as it is naturally wavy and if given a permanent it works with the speed of lightning and if left a second too long I end up with frizz. I have sworn off those forever. Now I am just growing it out and I keep dying it myself. I actually get better results from hairdressers in Mexico than any here.

OMG! This reminds me of several years ago, when a then-friend colored my hair and cut it. It was bright orange and spiked. I had to work hard to make it human again. You do have lovely hair which, I'm sure, you do quite well by yourself. (smiling) Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving.
