New Things

Sunday, November 17, 2013

I am growing to really love the new Start Page, even though I hated it at first, as I tend to hate change. One of the things I like is the goal board, and reviewing it every day. I chose a few pictures to go along with my goals, one of them being the girl with the hula hoop, and the slogan "Try New Things." Looking at that for a few days made me think I should take advantage of the free pool pass I have, and the exercise/fitness equipment available in rooms adjacent to the pool. I can fit into my swimsuit now, so Friday morning I swam for half an hour. I use the term "swam" lightly, as my swimming is nothing to brag about, and the lifeguard decided I needed to stay in the shallow end. Somehow swimming doesn't feel like that great of exercise, possibly because I don't get all sweaty. But it sure got my heart pumping, and I feel twinges of soreness in my triceps, so I think it did something. Tomorrow after work I am signed up to take the required orientation for the fitness equipment, and then I can try some other new stuff. I think the first thing I want to try is that big elliptical with the handles that you work back and forth with your arms at the same time. THAT looks like really good exercise!

The goal board is also getting me to finally get around to tackling some other stuff. Looking at those sentences every day about getting scrapbooking pages done, and adding "Scrapbook album pages completed today" to the goals to track daily, finally got me to get a page done yesterday. I think it likely that I'll do at least a page every day, since I like being able to get a point for tracking. Dumb motivation, but whatever works, huh?

I also added a "goal to track daily" about mending or altering articles of clothing, since I have quite a bit of that which needs doing. So yesterday when I went to have a chat and cup of tea with my neighbor, I took supplies along and darned 5 socks while we visited. Very proud of myself! Today I think I will alter my pajama pants, which are so big they are practically falling off. I need to cut them down a bit, and put a smaller elastic waistband.

Now it's 7:00 on Sunday morning, and time to get ready for church and then a lazy afternoon (with maybe some mending and some scrapbooking), and then dinner and games or a movie at home with my daughter and son-in-law. Hope your weekend is just as nice!
