Dear Sports Gear Companies,

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Yes, I am female and when I was 3 years old, I loved pink and purple. Now I am a woman and have money to spend on sports gear. BUT, just because I am female, it doesn't mean that I love pink, purple, and teal. I am a woman and have complex tastes. I like the gear designed for a woman's frame, but I don't like the color choices. Please, please make camelbacks, bike shoes, backpacks, bike helmets, and other gear for women in attractive colors other than pink, purple, and teal.

Thank you.

I went shopping for bike shoes and all the shoes were white with pink trim. The camelback that I wanted was only made in pink, purple, or teal. I am seeing a trend, if the sport gear are made for women, then they have limited girly colors or they have flowers and butterflies on them. I find myself wanting the men's version for the color but the women's version for the fit. Ok, there is probably company that makes what I want, but it's going to be expensive.

Oh well, I'll keep looking.

    Hi Amy,

There is obviously a market for bikes covered with butterflies and flowers; and helmets that are purple, pink and teal. That being said, my wife and daughter struggle to find sporting goods for adult women that don't look like decorating accessories for a 5 year-old girl's room!

I bought my wife a woman's Specialized mountain bike helmet that I knew she would like. She had been wearing a black and blue boy's Bell helmet that had seen better days. She flat could not wear a men's small helmet because these were just too big.

The Specialized helmet was silver and black; and had a silver and red spider web pattern in the black color. The only pink color on the helmet were two tiny pink buttons on the back of the helmet for tension release.

She loved the helmet! Unfortunately, Specialized dropped this color for 2014 and changed the new women's helmet colors to pink, purple and teal.

    Thanks, Bruce

emoticon I totally understand you! Though I enjoy the 'girl' colors and that others will see me from a distance & know I'm a girl. But, we should have choices!

best wishes as you look for some non-girly colors!

I totally agree with you. In this day and age you'd think some of these companies would realize the very things you are saying.

You are correct that you can find something in colors and/or designs other than pink/teal/purple/butterfly, etc ... especially online ... but you have shipping cost etc. If you do go that route, try to try on stuffs at the store first though to see if the fit works.

I found a helmet I liked, it was a Woman Specific Design (WSD) ... so I finally asked the bike people there about it (and about WSD in general). I was told that often it is the color and/or design. With helmets, they are a smaller size ... with bikes, perhaps the handle bars are narrower and the brake levers fit for smaller hands, and the saddle...but that is about the extent of it.

I hope you can find something affordable that you like the look of.

I was JUST ranting about this today on Facebook! I want a BLACK non-velour hoodie in a woman's cut... but all they make are PINK AND BABY BLUE! Yuck!

I don't help that any, cause I have a bit of a soft spot for pink! But I hope you find something you love in your price range soon!
