Being Spark Motivated

Last week I ordered and received the Spark Activity Tracker. emoticon I felt I needed the motivation to move. Previously I had the Weight Watchers Active Link and it was a contest with myself to get the most points from activity up and above my day to day activity. The WW ActiveLink kept falling off and one day my fear of losing it actually happened. One of my dogs decided to escape from my fenced in backyard (I had the gate opened an inch to get the wheelbarrow on the other side and he batted it with his paw and it opened :( ) and I ran through the neighborhood's backyards and woods trying to get him to return home. While on my little run (in the 90 degree weather no less...ugh) the ActiveLink fell off. So I was a little leary of getting the SP one to have that one fall off.

However I find the Spark Activity Tracker very solid and the it grasps onto where you put it very firmly. And it is free! WW charged for the tracker PLUS $5 a month. I have been wearing it since last Wednesday night and until today was not meeting the suggested 6,000 steps per day. Not to mention I only got 1 point for 5 minutes of workout time. Not good. But in my defense, my father has been in the hospital and now a rehab nursing home and my spare time is spent going to visit him. It takes me 35-40 minutes each way to see him plus staying an hour or two or three so my workout time has been limited.

Today that changed. I met my friend Joanne at the gym at 6:30am this morning and we walked on the treadmill for 40 minutes. We used to do this all the time a few years ago and we both lost a bunch of weight. Unfortunately life happened and we stopped doing this. But today we were back at it. And it felt good. When I got home, I walked my dogs and by 8:00am this morning I had recorded over 7,000 steps and logged two workouts!! Sweet! emoticon

As a side note, my twice daily walks with my two dogs is not a workout and I knew that. We do a fast walk for a few minutes and then have to stop and sniff each tree and leaf on the ground. emoticon With the activity tracker, this logs as just steps and not a workout which is as it should be. Today while they sniffed I walked back and forth so the tracker would not stop. emoticon

Today I feel motivated and making better food choices because of it. What a little toy will do. emoticon
