FIL not doing so well

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

We were able to call and talk to him as he was leaving the hospital. He didn't have enough money to pay but they let him go home with a promise that we will pay later. He had our doctor's brother drive him home. I got an email from my GP, also Dad's GP. I copied it below. I think it's time we put him into an assisted living facility so that he won't be alone. It's incredible that my doctor offered to take him into her home...see the mail below. Anyway, it looks like Dad will be going into the assistant living and he will be happy with that.

In the mail below also notice that my doctor signs it with her first name..Lupita. Keep in mind that her first language is Spanish so the English is a bit broken.

Hope you all are well today.
Make it a great day.

Hi Sallie:

how are you?? well you know your dad is out from the hospital.
we did the transfussion and he started to feel better; about the colonoscopy we are going to send you the results but it was a polip and diverticulosis.
He says that in the hospital he almost felt down in the shower and right now he is so afraid to be alone.
he told as that he wants to be with some one always i think he is depress.

our concern is that he does not eat well, and we can be fixing each time everything but is not the correct and right know he does not feel fine to be alone, and having nurses all the time is going to be so expensive, but what we can feel is he wants company.

I dont know how to help him, i can bring him to my house if he wants and you agree, or other thing is to take him to MIna┬┤s place is more cheaper that having nurses or some one being with him all the time, i recomend her because you know that she works fine and he is going to be fine, please let me know how we can help, he need to be with some else and eating good. that is the most imprtant.

What a wonderful Doctor. That's great your FIL wants to go to a care assistant facility. So many times parents fight that issue. Sounds like he will be in the right h0me for him. Bless his heart! emoticon

How sad. Diverticulitis is not the end of the world, but neither is it something to take lightly. Expect that FIL will need people to be with him and give him some care and support from time to time, even if he gets better from this episode and cleans up his lifestyle.

But it's great that you have such wonderful medical people on the case. That has to reduce the stress of being away during FIL's crisis by a whole lot.

Wow that is not something that you will find here in the States. You are lucky if you can see the doctor in two weeks here in the States.. You have one fine doctor that really cares about the person that they are taking care of and that he is not just another number to move through the office or hospital. Praying for your father.

How lucky you all are to have doctors that take personal care and are really concerned. Our medical system is just the opposite and is only getting worse. It sounds like you and DH do not have to worry about your FIL as he is in good hands

Sounds like the medical team is on top of his needs. Assisted living would probably be a good thing, as long as he doesn't give up and expects everyone to wait on him.
Continuing prayer for FIL and the rest of your family.

Oh, Sallie. What a doctor! Incredible that she would offer her own home. What a jewel you have there. So hope the assisted living works well for him. It is good that he wants other people around. Take care. Hope you are feeling strong and healthy and enjoying your grandkids!! -Marsha

How kind your doctor is! I do think if FIL agrees, that is the best placement for him. It is so hard to live alone, at any age. HUGS!

I am totally blown away, speechless (and if you know me, for sure you know that doesn't happen a lot!)

It certainly does sound like he'd do better in assisted living. That way he'd be with others, be look after, have meals and companionship. Even when you do get back to Mexico, you can't be with him 24/7.

Godspeed. Tough situation. I just am blown away by the Drs. compassion!!!!

    Oh, my- poor dear man.
What wonderful services you get there, for sure.
Can he go into assisted living just for a few weeks or months until you are home and his health/ strength improves?
