The DESIGN challenge has started! What is the DESIGN challenge? It was the brainstorm of my fellow leader on the San Antonio Spark team, POOKASLUAGH. DESIGN stands for Daily Exercise, Sparking, Intake, Goals, and Nutrition. We've had a great sign up and I'm hopeful that most of the participants will stick it out for the 8 weeks of the challenge.
We have two teams. Team Chanel is headed up by POOKASLUAGH and JELAWTON3. I am heading up Team Armani, along with HEALTHYHABITGAL. We picked these two iconic designers to represent our teams because they both designed for bodies that were more representative of the "average" woman's figure. Coco Chanel is famous for saying she "freed the body" with her use of fabrics that "forgave" like jersey and other knits. Georgio Armani banned models from his runway shows if their BMI was under 18. No ultra-skinny, anorexic looking models on the catwalk in his designs!
My weight loss goal during this 8-wk challenge is to lose 8 pounds. One pound a week is a struggle for me at times. I know the first few weeks of getting back into better habits will yield great results but it will be slow going after that. Anything over 8 pounds if I actually get there will be sugar-free icing on the healthy spice cake of triumph for me.
For the intake part of the challenge, I will be tracking everything I eat and drink using the Spark nutrition tracker. I'm not fussy about staying within a certain range because I know from past experience that when I track I am more aware of what my intake is and I make better, closer to range choices.
My health-related goal is to go to the gym at least twice a week. I have found in the past that if I go to the gym at least twice a week I am a LOT more likely to work out at home and find other ways of incorporating exercise into my days. I love to strength train at the gym and do my cardio at home.
My personal goal for the challenge is to not drink any soda. I was doing so well for almost a year, but slipped back into that Coca-Cola habit. Water is my drink of choice...but lately I've just forgotten to choose wisely.
For motivation I have chosen several items representing 8 pounds. Among them are this picture printed 8 times on one 8.5x11 sheet of paper.
I also have a picture collage of my newest grandbaby, Robyn, taken a few weeks ago on her 1 month birthday...when she just happened to weigh in at 8 pounds! This picture is to remind me why it is important that I lose weight and get as healthy as possible. I want to dance at Little Miss Pretty Girl's wedding someday!
I'm excited to see where this challenge takes us. I hope most of the participants feel empowered and accomplished by getting through the holidays healthier than we started.
Just because....here's an Armani and a Chanel creation for Fashion Week 2013:
