Would love to hear some of your healthy holiday ideas!

Monday, November 11, 2013

I am planning on getting my steps by walking neighborhoods looking at the Christmas lights. I make my hot chocolate with cocoa powder, stevia and a little bit of chocolate protein powder. Lots of roasted veggies. I'm also going to try lots of self care over the holidays instead of sweets (warm baths, meditation..etc) I would love to hear your ideas or suggestions on how to get through the holidays and stay on track! Thanks for reading..

Over the years my holiday table has become a little more simple. I don't serve as many dishes. I serve a large salad and one meat or pasta dish with many vegetables. I try to fill up on the salad and put more vegetables on my plate.

Sorry I missed DH had surgery on the 11th - well - am participating in a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving . Then I am heading over to Moms house to help cook - My Mom is 104 sopping wet !!! No kidding - she has never allowed snacks in the house or soda - so we Drink Hot Apple Cider - toast with Sparkling Cider but I do plan on Pumpkin Pie with whip cream - my main focus is portion control - I am a bottle baby- always drinking water - that helps . I am preparing a Veggie Platter for appetizers. I have not even begun to think of Christmas to Early - have to get through my Birthday which fall on Immaculate Conception First !! Hugs Karen

I'm going to try to watch all the dys before and after that I stay on the lower end of the calories. Then on the actual holiday, eat whatever I want but as small portions, drinking lots of water. I don't know if this will work but it's my try.

I frequently bring half of a meal home when we go out (I'd split it with ICRAZYDOG if we lived closer LOL), and sometimes my husband and I will split a meal.

When we go to a holiday party, we bring something that we can eat -- WW lasagna or some sort of veggie entree -- and try to stay away from other more-caloric options.

ETOH - Seltzer in a wine glass at a party is festive (after I have a glass of wine!)

    1. Meditation, deep breathing, journaling, keeping up with friends/family.

    2. I sometimes will have hot chocolate/cocoa, too, using DARK CHOCOLATE, stevia, cinnamon and nutmeg. I make mine with almond milk vs. dairy. It satisfies.

    3. If I'm going out to eat, I ALWAYS box up 1/2 the entrée I order and usually get at LEAST one more meal from it. That way no temptation to over eat.

    3. I sometimes order an appetizer instead of an entrée if there's a healthy one, and the entrees aren't appealing and/or healthy.

    4. IF I'm going to a party, I ALWAYS have plenty of water to drink beforehand, eat something healthy so I'm not starving and tempted. IF I'm going to eat @ the party, I stick to a snack size plate, peruse the offerings, have a little taste of 2-3 things that look appealing and that's it.

    5. I concentrate on drinking seltzer water with a twist (lime or lemon) vs. alcohol.

Just some of the things that work for me.
