I turned 38 last week. Not a generally significant number, but for me, this year is significant. It's my first year deliberately doing something different. Last Christmas a friend gave me a unique gift - a free month of personal training at Anytime Fitness. Although I dragged my feet, tried to pawn it off on my husband, considered just throwing it away, I eventually called and went in for my first consultation. I went through the gamut of humiliation, shame, regret, fear, hesitation, etc, as I explained to a fitness coach that I was addicted to food, I was lazy and inactive, and had been teaching my children to be the same way for too many years. The pain of regret was truly weighing down on me, and I realized not too long ago that the pain of discipline weighs a lot less. Through the training, the learning, the discipline of working out, eating differently, and getting in tune with what was going on inside my head, I have continued for 9 months, losing 24 lbs and several inches from all over my body. The benefits are innumerable, and the drawbacks minimal if any. I want this to be ME. I want to see 39 next year as an even healthier, fitter, more energetic and joyous person. This is the ME I want to see in the mirror everyday.
