Week 2 - Day 13 - Sleep

Saturday, November 02, 2013

OMG I slept so well last night! Yay! Sleep is something I've always struggled with. I like to stay up late. I like to get up early. I don't usually sleep a lot. Five hours a night on average. Sometimes on weekends I will sleep 10 or 12 hours and feel like crap because I've slept too much. Other times I only get 2 or 3 hours and feel like crap because I haven't slept enough. I can function and feel okay on 5 hours, but I function and feel fabulous when I get 7 or 8.

Eight hours last night, baby! emoticon

I am functioning and fabulous! emoticon

In other updates, my 10 minutes per day exercising streak continues. I walked 2 KM on the treadmill yesterday, 20 minutes.

I was on track to have eaten within my range but after I did the exercise my ranges changed and I was supposed to eat more, so I came in just under on calories and protein again. I'm not sure what to think of that actually. Do I really need to eat more if I've only done a mere 20 minutes of exercise and I'm not hungry?

Thanks guys! It's so wonderful to have people weighing in with their own advice and personal experiences as I try to figure all this out.

Desiree, I think I might turn that function off for now. Maybe it would be okay if I was working out really hard but right now I'm just easing in and really don't need any extra pressure to eat more food.

Jodi, your sleep habits from the past sound exactly like mine now! I need to turn this around and take a page from your book. You'll be my motivation. If you can do it, so can I!

Julie, I do think the exercise is helping me sleep better. I think as I build up to more exercise it will help even more. Fingers crossed!

    emoticon Thanks all!

About the extra calories earned when you exercise, I think it's an individual thing. Just like Weight Watchers activity points, some people use it and some don't. I think experimenting would be helpful, it really depends on whether it helps you lose weight or not.

Good for you on your good night's sleep! emoticon I'm like you too, I have problems sleeping enough. Maybe the exercise is helping you sleep better? emoticon

Congratulations on your exercise streak! You're doing great, keep it up! emoticon

Congrats on continuing your exercise streak.

In the past three years, I have developed a healthy sleep schedule for me. I sleep 8-9hrs 7 days per week 95% of the time. At one time, I lived on 5hrs or less and would crash on weekends. Now I realize how unhealthy that is for me and I make my sleep a priority. It sounds like you are starting to do that too!

I tried the settings that change according to the fitness tracker, and found they were telling me to eat like 2,000 calories. Which I KNOW I only maintain at. I leave it as is, and just eat higher in my range on days I work out harder. As long as your range isn't set too low for your level of activity (you would likely be super hungry!) I don't think it's necessary to worry about eating an exact number more calories just because you moved more. It's all about balance throughout the week.
emoticon job on your streaks- you should be SUPER proud of yourself!
