Better Sleep Challenge Week One

Saturday, November 02, 2013

For the Spark Better Sleep Challenge I am suppose to monitor my sleep with the following questions so here it goes:

What time did you wake up yesterday? 6:21am (I slept thru the alarm).

What time did you lay down to go to sleep last night? 10:30pm

What, if any, was your bedtime routine? I like to read in bed before going to sleep - it helps me get my worries out of my head. I find I do best with reading magazine articles as they are short and I can put the magazine down at anytime, where a book I sometimes get absorbed into the story and lose track of time. Last night I was reading Facebook and emails on my Iphone which does not help me prepare for sleep.

What were the last food(s) you consumed tonight? (Include type, amount, and time you ate.) 1/2 cup of GoLean cereal at 9:30pm with Light Soy Milk.

Did you exercise today? (Include the type, duration, and time of day if you exercised.) I completed two 20 minute walks with the dogs - one at 8am the other at 9:00 pm.

Did you consume any alcoholic beverages today? (Include type, number, and time of day.) NO

Did you consume any caffeinated drinks or foods today? (Include type, number, and time of day.) Oh -yeah - the cups of coffee first thing in the morning and then a cup of Chai tea after lunch.

Did you take any medications (prescription and/or over-the-counter) today? (Include type, amount, and time of day.) NO

Did you take any naps today? (Include number of naps, duration of each, and time of day.) I wish - no.

What types of stressors did you encounter today, and what types do you expect to encounter tomorrow? Busy schedule stress - always so much to do.

How hungry did you feel today? (1- Not hungry, 2- Normal hunger, 3- Strong hunger, 4- Extreme hunger) Normal hunger.

How awake did you feel today? (1- Exhausted, 2- Somewhat tired, 3- Fairly alert, 4- Wide awake) 1- Exhausted, but I attributed that to the two glasses of red wine I enjoyed on Halloween.

How irritable did you feel today? (1- Calm, 2- Slightly annoyed, 3- Moderately irritable, 4- Highly irritable) Slightly annoyed.

Next, draw a line of Zzz's across the page beneath your answers to these questions.
Okay - this is now for today:

When you wake up, answer the following questions below your "sleep" line:
How long did it take you to fall asleep last night? (This may be an estimate.) I fall asleep right away - so 3 minutes.

How many times did you wake up during the night? (Include times you woke up and how long you stayed awake.) Once to let the puppy out to potty and then I fell right back to sleep. Puppy got me up again in the morning at 6:00am.

In total, how many hours did you sleep last night? My Fitbit says that I slept 7:37 minutes last night!!!

Sleeping is a hidden health requirement just as important as diet & exercise...being a former overnight worker who is now in retirement, I am FULLY understanding just how sleep deprived I was & how it affected my everyday living.

Glad you got at least 7 hours...I love checking my fitbit for my results...I found I am a very restless sleeper...

Sweet dreams in your nights ahead,
