Have you set a new short- or medium-term goal or challenge recently? Do you have a goal or challenge that you have been working on for a while? What is it? What do you hope to gain from it?
This year, I set an overall goal to honestly go after my desire to drop a significant amount of weight and get more fit. I was watching my food intake and doing a variety of start and stop exercising. I would drop 1 to 3 pounds and boom, put it right back on. I took a serious look and saw that there was one part of my life-style that had become a serious HABIT and that needed to be changed. What was it? The nightly wine intake. It was a habit - triggered by the cocktail hour/meal preparation time frame and the enjoyable relaxation with my DH as he arrived home from work. So I took that head on (SP team: Cutting Down the Calories ((booze)) and have been very successful.
I am now into the second part of my goals - the exercise. So my new short term goal is gear up this effort to get me past the 13 pounds lost and into the strength is energy portion of my journey.
Strength is energy. When you are in shape, moving and pushing your body then the other portions of your day seem to just be more upbeat and active. You DO get a euphoric feeling. I am working toward a better fitness level so that I can get back to more outdoor activity - be it hiking, gardening, backpacking, canoeing, sailing, skiing - tennis, golf etc. I just want to be able to say: " Yes, let's go do that!"
So my short-term goals for the remainder of this year:
1. keep the wine under control
2. continue to exercise at the gym and push myself
3. Get outside as much as possible
4. Use the energy to have an enjoyable holiday season
