Week 4 BSG Ghastly Ghosts Most Memorable Halloween

Monday, October 28, 2013

This week for the A&I team we were asked to blog about our most memorable Halloween.

I'd have to say that the one Halloween that stands out in my mind is the year my older sister and I both dressed up as black cats. We wore black tights and a black leotard. It seems like we wore black patent leather shoes but I can't remember for sure. Unfortunately, mom didn't have the time to sew black tails on to our leotards. You tend to not have a lot of time for things like that when you own a home and are a single mom with 2 little kids. Mom put makeup on our faces to look like we had cat whiskers. One of the reasons why this Halloween stands out in my mind is that we both froze our behinds off going door to door getting candy. We wore coats but then took them off just before we got to the door so that the people could see our costumes. We were still really cold though. Normally we'd do around 3 blocks or so before going home. We lived on a hill and we'd usually go up or down one side then go to the other streets and then get the other side of the street on our way back home. This year I think we did 2 blocks...maybe. We never dressed so skimpily ever again after that Halloween. We wanted candy but we couldn't wait to get home. Thankfully it didn't snow that year for Halloween but it was cold enough as it is! In Colorado it wasn't entirely unheard of for it to snow around this time of year. We did however, get lots of comments about our costumes. emoticon emoticon

I bet you and your sis were adorable! isn't it funny how certain holidays stand out for us. I remember when i met my hubs and the first Halloween party we attended...he went as Wolfman and his mask really scared me. I went as a retired playboy bunny...saggy boobs(a plastic top I bought somewhere) and a droopy bunny tail. Funny thing is...I was in such good shape at that point (about age 27) the thought of that costume makes me laugh...I could pull it off this year with absolutely NO props whatsoever! emoticon snicker! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I remember trick or treating in the rain, sleet, snow, wind, below freezing temps, one year an ice storm (the only time I ever remember having one here, and it happened to be on Halloween) and just to mix it up the occasional beautiful night. The last year I went trick or treating I finally got smart and went as a skier - ski coat, hat, mittens, boots, etc. With one leg wrapped like a cast a on crutches. Of course that year it was in the 50s so I roasted all night.

Thanks for sharing this chilly child memory. It's great to be able to look back on memories like this, what a great mom to juggle so much but yet still make costumes for her girls. Precious memories for sure.
