Unexpected drop in weight

Saturday, October 26, 2013

A 5 lb drop this week?! Isn't that crazy?

I had a friend come and check my scale to verify that it was still working this morning. I have noticed a steady decline over the course of the week but this morning alone was a whole 2 lb drop from yesterday. 5lbs of fat loss in a week is impossible, let's just face it.

First off, I have been eating pristinely. I have kept intake at 1300 cals/day. My water intake has been good. I've eaten a ton of veggies this week and one piece of fruit a day. This is all good, of course, but not the reason for the degree of loss. It's not the first time I've done well at eating and I never had this kind of drop before.

Here's my theory of why this happened:

I think my metabolism still may be a bit high from my body being used to exercising regularly and intensely. This will eventually go down some over the next few months while healing. However, because I am not exercising like I have been, I am not undergoing the normal wear and tear, with the consecutive inflammation response. On top of that, since I've been resting, I think the inflammation I was carrying around because of this leg is also decreasing.

So bottom line, I'm pleased with the scale but am not fooled into thinking this is fat loss!

It will be interesting to see what happens in this coming week.

WOW! That is incredible! And I love how you described your eating as being pristine. Excellent word choice. Especially because I struggle so much with eating even semi-nicely lol. WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!

Wow! emoticon Girl! Enjoy! I disagree with you though in that I do believe you would lose some weight eating only 1300 calories per day and all of those GOOD calories!
Enjoy it but don't be fooled into any over confidence! DO give yourself the chance to heal.

Some, if not most, has to be fat loss since you are eating 1300 cals/day and eating the right things. This is great!!! emoticon

I think you're right. It's a combination of all those things as your body adjusts.

Sometimes just changing things up will do it, going from exercising to not exercising. Sticking pristinely to your calories. Also, the inflammatory process and your body healing. Take the 5 lb loss and be happy! Other weeks the scale will not be so cooperative, we know how that goes! Hope you are healing well and can ease back into working out in the near future. Notice how I said "ease"?
    Take care!

You earned this loss! Once you slowed down to heal, your body thought.... emoticon ....I am not in starvation mode. I can drop some pounds! Take this as a good sign for healthy eating while you recover. Gentle hugs, Laurel emoticon

Your theories are sound, but also keep in mind that the body uses calories in healing - and a lot of them. Please make sure to keep your protein levels up, since your body needs it to heal.

Kudos on keeping your eating on keel, and strong thoughts that you recuperate soon!

I think your theories are sound - and that mean that even though the scale has been up, you've actually weighed less all this time! What a pleasant surprise. :)
