It's getting colder here

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

This morning I got up to go for my walk, and luckily checked the temperature before leaving the house. It was almost freezing! Long johns were quickly added to my walking attire, along with mittens. I love mittens! The crisp fall air felt wonderful though. I did my 1.9 km route in 25 minutes again, and then went home to take the dogs out back. I would take them for my walk, but taking both of them when you are alone is tandamount to suicide and they don't exactly cooperate with my trying to walk fast enough to get my heart rate up plan. Webster just went crazy with the colder weather. He started flying back and forth in the backyard, just having a blast. Eliza kind of joined him, but she doesn't fully understand Webster and his reactions so it was more halfhearted.

When I got home I did the abs workout video again. Ouch! I know I will be thankful for the strength I gain from it in the future, but when I am lying there holding my stomach because my abs hurt it is hard to think about the future.

I went to the barn today too. I didn't ride because it was really windy out there and the indoor arena isn't fully finished yet. I just wasn't up for riding outside and having it go like this: walk, spook, trot, spook, walk, spook, halt, spook, trot, spook, canter around madly like the devil is chasing us, trot, spook. I brought Ellie in, and brushed her. She was filthy, and I didn't want to put her rainsheet over all of that dried mud. I also fed her, which made her a happy pony.

Eliza came out with me today. She hadn't been to the barn in probably over a month and she just loves it out there. Her happy face just makes me so grateful. She has had a pretty rough life before we got her. She was found by the SPCA, half starved, eating crap on the ground by a dumpster. We are pretty sure that she is a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix. We don't know how old she is, just that she is probably between 7 and 10. She used to cower when we leaned over her, and would run away from raised voices. Now she is just a lovable monster and thinks that people were put on the planet to give her love.

This is Eliza after enjoying an ice cream cone. Her "brother" Webster is in the background.

This is a video I took at the barn last winter.

I hope that link works. Anyway, I'm getting super tired and it's not yet time for bed. Darn! Must keep myself occupied for a little longer.

It's supposed to be super chilly here tomorrow, which deterred me from wanting to walk the dog tomorrow. However, you have motivated me to take her tomorrow. She'll love it - She LOVES cold weather. It's hard to get her to come inside when it is snowing.

Talking about riding the horse cracked me up. They do tend to get spooked so easily. It can kind of be frustrating sometimes, like, "Come on! Nothing is going to GET you dummy!"
