Bye, bye summer, hello winter

We had the possibility of snow a couple of days ago. So, I cleaned out the garden for the winter. We had a number of green tomatoes. I have never even tried fried green tomatoes but it seemed like a good time to do it. We had fried green tomatoes and scalloped brussel sprouts. This was the first time I have grown brussel sprouts and I have to admit I was really surprised at how they grow. They grow is spirals up the stalk of the plant. They were really good but very tiny compared to the ones in the store. Wonder what they are feeding their brussel sprouts. We didn't have any snow that day but there have been some flakes since. Don't know if I am ready for winter yet, seems a little early for me but I guess it will come whether I am ready or not.

We added some hot sauce to the fried green tomatoes and they were delicious.

    I'm guessing that the professional growers pinch off every other sprout to make them bigger. Personally, I prefer the smaller sprouts; they're much sweeter.

    I think growing brussels sprouts is about the cutest thing ever....little but cute..
