Monday 10/21 Back to school and more

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Hi all,

My big accomplishment besides teaching was getting answers today. I called Mayo and found out that my initial appointment could take from 4-7 business days. Oh boy, that will create a lot of responsibility for my family because Micah cannot miss that much school. I also found out that my report from my second opinion back doctor was ready along with a CD of the x-rays were ready for me. I also talked with an attorney about the car accident we were in a year ago July and we have an appointment on Wednesday to talk about it. Finally, I talked about my trip to Mayo and a brief description of my health concerns to my principal who seemed pretty understanding (today anyway.)

My surgeons report contains a lot of vocabulary I need to research. Some key phrases include: Sagittal imbalance, osteomyelitis, spinal osteotomy, pedicel subtraction osteotomy, T10 to the pelvis instrumented posterior spinal fusion, lumbar lordosis, and lumbar kyphosis. I intend to understand how my back works by the time I go to Mayo, so I can have intelligent conversations with the doctors there. I have all of my reports in hand, so now, I must get may family ready to take care of business. Wish me luck on that!

Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

It sounds like you have quite a bit if inflammation and deformity in your spine. I'm sure Mayo will be very thorough. I have faith that your family will step up to the plate. emoticon

That is good you have time to review and understand your surgeon's report. I always ask for the reports on everything myself. I have taken University Anatomy and a medical terminology class so not too much is a mystery to me. Comes in handy.
I hope something positive comes out of the accident for you.
I am glad that principal actually seems to understand (really??)
I don't understand why you need your youngest out of school when your husband is retired now, couldn't he take you? Your children should be old enough to take care of themselves surely, with the oldest ones stepping up to help out..
    Take care of yourself!!
