SAt. - I Walked to the Top of a Mountain!!!

Saturday, October 19, 2013

Today I climbed a MOUNTAIN.. and one of the ladies I went with, seriously thought she was taking a heart attack.... it seemed straight up there for awhile... We did finish it and once we got to the peak, it was all downhill after that! haha!!!..... but we walked every step of it.. they offered a golf cart shuttle to take us down, but why, after we already did the hard work. And then once we made it to the bottom, it was another 1.6 km back to the parking lot and they offered a cab, but come on, we'd already been to the mountain and back, why wuss out then? But, there weren't any refreshments to be had, unless you paid for them, and none of us brought any money, we did have protein bars and oatmeal to go bars and water bottles so we had it covered...

The 2 ladies I went with were ladies I see at the dam all the time, but after they told me about the walk, I asked if they wanted company, thus inviting myself along... It was the hardest work and most fun I have had in a verrrrryyyy long time... Lots of talking and commiserating and it was
great...You should have seen the kids running it!!! There was a lady sitting beside me in the cabin at the end where they had a storyteller and I asked if it was rude if I asked her age, and she told me she was 70, and she wasn't a lite-weight either..... Imagine!!!! She did the hardwork, but took the shuttle down....

I was coughing away most of the time, it's in my upper chest area, not really in my lungs though, so dry hacky annoying cough, but it didn't take my energy away. One of the ladies said when she saw me hurrying up the mountain that she thought I was crazy, and she'd never made it. But, she's been diabetic for 8 years and her AIC last time 3 mths. ago, was 15.... so, she only persistently started walking an hour a day just over a month ago, so that was quite an accomplishment.... they had no idea what they were getting themselves into either, none of us had ever walked this trail!!! It was beautiful, multic-colored with the leaves, the bright red ones were gorgeous... even had a couple of little waterfalls in it. And when we got to the top, we took a pic of us on top of a big rock.... must post so everyone can see.

I was disappointed not to find tv cameras there, I was expecting my picture in the newspaper, but nothing..... oh well.... now, if I hadn't gone nuts on stupid eating the rest of the day, it should have burned up lots of calories...... When I was first starting, I noticed the backs of my calfs were tight and achy. I mentioned it to someone stationed along the way and she said it was from walking more on the toes than flat-footed, so upon changing my step, all went well... I heard someone else saying same thing and told her too... I wish I knew how many people did the walk, it was a fantastic turnout... there were line-ups of cars along the roadway. It started at 1pm and we got down close to 3:30... only about 5 km but much of it straight uphill!!! Perfect weather and temperature, any hotter would have made it unbearable..

I just bought a bristol board and masking taped all my hats to it to bring to church tomorrow for prayer.... going to take a pic to post after the camera charges up.

What an amazing start to a weekend!!!
Wishing everyone else an amazing weekend as well!!!
gotta figure out how to upload the pics.....
