the roller coaster of being a sports fan

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Identifying, and smirking at the people on sports radio who were so gloomy yesterday, after the Detroit Tigers lost a 1-0 contest to go down 2-1 to Boston in the ALCS, today being so chipper and assuming "we're going to win and head to the World Series! WOO!", despite the fact two of the remaining games are in Boston. Hey, I get it, I've gone from resigned pessimism after losing game 2 in shocking fashion, to the resignedly optimistic position of hey, it could happen, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander are still slated for the last two games, and all the starting pitchers have been lights out the whole series. Who knows?

In related news, World Series tickets for the games in Detroit, which may not happen, are selling at $350 a seat (on the cheap end!). I'm thinking I should have tried and grabbed 4 tickets at $250 apiece when they went on sale, and then resold 2 at $500 apiece, and taken my brother to the game with the other two for free-ish. watching the prices on Stubhub, I'm pretty sure that's what some people are doing.

There's still a possibility that I may splurge, since my brother has had the experience of going to a world series game, back when the Tigers made it in 2006, and I was not able to make it back from Wisconsin for the event. That's at least made possible by the fact that I didn't get a position I interviewed for on Wednesday, which would have taken me away from the Detroit area immediately, had I been successful. Oh well. At least this time, I got done with the interview, and felt like that I had a chance of getting the position, which wasn't the case the last interview I had. Steps in the right direction, right?

My scale is throwing a battery warning at me, and I haven't a clue where I put the replacements. Stuff tends to get lost a bit through a couple of moves (last year), and batteries, well, they aren't necessarily a priority. Wonder if there's a Batteries Plus type store around, or if Bed Bath and Beyond would have the right type? Guess I could always check walgreens first, since that's the nearest store.

Heading up north for a wedding this weekend. It seems as though the weather will be dreary for the drive up. Hoping that the leaves have turned cool colors up there. Might have to take a drive along the Lake Michigan shoreline, too.

Probably a CR2032 button type battery and CVS or Walgreens should have it. If you have a Target or Shopko nearby, they have it too.

    Batteries: radio shack, buddy.

I'm not the biggest baseball fan but have had that experience with football, hehe.

I used to go to some Indians games in HS when my dad was sharing a set of season tickets... (I like baseball better in person!) We had playoffs & or/World Series tickets when they were doing so well back then (1990-something... don't care to look it up) and my mom GAVE THEM AWAY AHHHHHH. My brother and I were gobsmacked...
