August & September Goal Results

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

1) Maintain my weight at +10 / -14 pounds
Met, although mostly by my diet and not through exercise

2) Maintain my budget and pay off 1 debts (revised)
On track

4) Resume saxophone playing and look for a band to join

5) Travel
**5Q1 – Met - Normandy, Paris, Compiegne & Oise area in January with my son
**5Q2 – Met – Amsterdam, Netherlands
**5Q3 – Met – Bordeaux, France
**5Q4 – Berlin in Nov/Dec

7) Improve sleep habits
Met - but am "cheating" by going to work later so I can stay up later! But at least I am still following the rule I had set for this goal, which was to go to bed a minimum of 8 hours before the alarm goes off.

8) Eliminate the Snooze

9) Learn French
Took a wine tasting mini-class and a vineyard tour in Bordeaux which were in French & understood a good portion of both. Also answered my phone once & understood enough to say that he needed to call someone else and provided the phone number. Took my cats to the vet for their annual shots & the vet – who was Dutch & spoke English – said that the receptionist had made a note in my file that I did not speak French very well at all lol.

10) Have fun and stress less; list other monthly mini-accomplishments
10a – made a little progress on recipe organization – building a database that will also calculate nutritional value
10b – ran a 17k race through the activities committee at work and finished despite not having trained

3) Finish my 1st Marathon
not going to happen this year due to combination of knee issues in the Spring and changing interests / lack of motivation in the summer

6) Set Triathlon goal date, start training

11) Half Fanatic Moons
not going to happen this year due to lack of motivation in this summer resulting in no real training at all

Hahahaha for your French.... you are actually doing great!

    Well done!

(Just pondering, no pressure intended, but I wonder if you could consider going to church in French; you'd hear a complete different vocabulary, and you'd get to SING in French, which might be helpful to see the words and hear them spoken at the same time)

Doing a great job on meeting your goals. Mine are not so lofty-working on decluttering the house and keeping up with all my gardening (still getting in my 10K of steps daily).

I was watching Bones last night, and it had a part about a cancer patient who was dying compiling, and checking off things to do on his bucket list. In the end, he stated that no one ever finishes their bucket list, they just keep adding to it. Life is pretty boring without goals, and when we reach them, it is time to set new ones.

I love Biggest Loser, which starts tonight again. More specifically, I love Jillian. I read her book Unlimited, and she asked the question why are you losing weight?, and in my mind, I go, " So I can be healthier ". She made a good point though. We don't lose weight to feel better, or achieve a weight. We get healthier so that we can do certain things, like ride a bike, or run a marathon. Once we get healthier, we can do more things.

Up to that point my goal was losing the weight. It is much more important what you do after you lose the weight. This monthly list seems like a great idea. Some of these goals are pretty big, like learning a language, but unless we track our progress, we tend to never get started with anything.

Keep it going. You will hit all your goals eventually.
