Fall Camping Trip

Our camping trip was, for the most part, AWESOME! Our
bound friend, Katie, had so much fun on her first camping trip. She has muscular dystrophy, and her mother was a little apprehensive about sending her daughter out into the wilderness. But, she helped cook, clean up, went on a
hike, went on a snipe hunt, played a little practical joke on me ("wouldn't it be funny if we tricked Mrs Tamika into thinking the snipe got me").
The meals were almost completely prepared by the girls. This was our first camping trip that was not really planned by the leaders, and it showed. Total carbs for breakfast, except the bananas and apples I bought to break up the carb-fest. Chicken noodle soup for lunch (turned out really good, but we added bologna sandwiches to the meal.) Tacos were the choice for dinner. Of course, there were s'mores for dessert, and a celebratory slice of
for the troop (a gift from one of the other leaders.)
We had a tour of the Girl Scout Museum on site. Camp Chowenwaw was a GS camp for decades, until it was sold to the Clay County Parks and Recreation Department. It sits on Black Creek. The girls absolutely love the place! The lodgings range from tent sites to cabins with electricity, the cabins range from "prison-like" (not my words) to air-conditioned, from big log cabin lodges to tree houses. We are making plans for our next trip, the winter camp out. This one will be in cabins
and hopefully catch a few
to put on our plates!
