Lots of Stuff Going On

Saturday, October 12, 2013

As the title says, lots of stuff going on right now. Mainly on the family front.

There is still no diagnosis with what is going on with Mom. However, we know that it isn't vertigo. It looks like it might be a neurological problem, as we have discovered that her eyes are fine (one of her complaints was blurred vision, etc) and other things are all in working order. So there is a disconnect somewhere in the brain, we think, between her eyes and brain. We're looking into a neurologist. She is also seeing a psychologist/psychiatrist, so she will now be able to talk to someone about her frustrations. She has talked to me about them, but there isn't much I can do to help.

Mom was in physical therapy for about a month and has improved her movement. She still needs to take things slow, but she now has full confidence to ride the stationery bicycle all on her own. Also! It looks like her body still makes insulin, it just doesn't know when to disperse it through her body. So now, she will take a shot of a medication in the morning that will help her body know when to use insulin, and she just needs to monitor her blood sugar. She only needs to take a half dose of her night time insulin now, none around meals, and the ultimate goal is to have Mom completely off the insulin.

My sister is going to start classes for job skill training around the end of December/beginning of January. This will be a huge step for her and hopefully this will mean that she will be able to become independent. I have been worrying about what will happen to her if anything happened to Mom and Dad for a very long time now. I still only have a once a week job that pays pretty much nothing as my full time job is taking care of Mom and driving her and my sister places. I just can't work a job in with all of Mom and my sister's appointments and sleep. But anyhoo, these classes will hopefully help her and hopefully she can find a job. If so, that is one less thing that I am worrying about.

For me... well, life has been different. I've gained a little weight back, about five to ten. Not sure as I forgot to weigh myself until after I had drunk all of my water for the day and eaten, so that will be skewed somewhat. But I feel pretty good. Work is going well, love working with the kids. Even on the stressful days, they help me stay positive. I'm dating my best friend, which wasn't a planned thing it was sort of a... huh, looks like we're dating now, sort of thing. Well, the majority of my friends ended up marrying their best friends, so who knows? The best friend has always been a good support, heck, he offered to drive my sister to her classes in the morning if I couldn't because of mom's doctor's appointments.

Right now, I'm going to try to focus on getting back on track with healthy eating, because I haven't done much of that lately due to having to eat out a lot lately since I'm hardly home anymore. I also need to get several things looked at. Again, nothing new. Have the number for one doctor, will try to call him on Monday to make an appointment. Need to find an allergist to figure out what the heck I'm eating that is making my tongue swell.

Ah well. I got a nice break from home at the beginning of October. The bf and I went to Apple Day, a holiday for my college, where everything is amazingly apple themed. We visited with one of my friends down in Staunton and then we went down to Blacksburg to visit two other friends. It was relaxing. Well, until the drive home, but at that point, I was just sick of driving and tired, plus there was a lot of construction, thus, a cranky Limdur. My GPS also really needs to be updated... Need to do that...

Right now, going to clean the room and see if I can get back on track with exercising.
