Look Out Geek Squad and, Adding a Little Perspective

Friday, October 11, 2013

Well, a surprise second interview later, I have my second job. I'm feeling less sorry for myself than I did when I applied. Getting a job offer is always affirming, even if you don't want the job. The new job shouldn't affect my morning walks unless being on my feet that long bothers me knees too much. The second job will provide precisely the amount of income I need and it will work to sharpen and expand my IT skill set. It's a good all-around fit. It just makes for long days. Life could be much worse.

I was pondering this experience in the context of this community. By far, one of the hardest things I've attempted in my life is to develop a fit lifestyle. Lately, it's been very hard. Many of us here are stress eaters, so I don't have to tell you the effect financial stress has had on my efforts here. The added stress of a second job should be much less than the financial stress. Whatever else it is, it is a solution, not a problem.

Every one of us here, who has made progress toward a healthy lifestyle, has already overcome larger obstacles than a second job poses. So, bring it on. I'm ready, and I have backup.

Can I assume by your blog title that you've joined the Geek Squad????

    I LOVE THE GEEK SQUAD!!!!

As I am a virtual office worker with little to no physical technical affinity or skills, they have SAVED my work-butt many-a-time!

I am SUCH a VOCAL fan every time I go in, that they know me by name and have given me a TON of logo items. I proudly wear my black Geek Squad t shirt while showing off the various pens, pencils, stress balls, etc. emoticon Seeing the Geek Squad vehicles ride around town always makes me smile.

    What a happy job!!!!

    Congratulations!

I work a second job, too. It offered me some good opportunities to make positive changes. I'm not snoozing or mindlessly snacking in front of stupid TV shows and I've built a nice personal "community" for myself.

I find that I need to work harder at some things, like making sure I have healthy snacks and meals available, and scheduling quality time with friends, figuring out how to get weekly chores done, etc. I've needed to be more focused and organized.

Good for you for taking steps towards a less-stressful future!
