~ p90X.. Week 5 update ~

... so this week has been really busy with unexpected "life events" and not working so well for the P90X workouts.

... anyway, I have done the following workouts for the week:

Monday: Oct. 7: AM/PM Walking (2 hours) (should have done P90X shoulders, Chest & Triceps)

Tuesday: Oct 8: AM/PM Walking and Shoulders, Chest & Triceps (2 hours/30 minutes)

Wednesday: Oct. 9: AM/PM Walking (2 hours) (didn't do Biceps/Back)

Thursday: Oct. 10: AM/PM Walking (2 hours)

*Friday: Oct. 11: AM/PM Walking and Legs/back scheduled

NOTE: P90X has a lot of push-ups and I am finding it difficult to do all of them. I think that push-ups are great, but between my weak wrists and truncal lymphedema it's just not possible for me to perform all the push-up variations, so I modified using Supreme 90's shoulder, chest & tricep workout. Monday, I ordered Cathes, "Pure Strength" workout and will sub/rotate with her workout as well; between S90 and Cathe I will still get a safe challenging workout in.

The P90X leg segment (... not back) is very difficult as well. In week 3, I actually did only the first half of the leg/back rotation and I got a good workout in & still felt sore for a few days after that workout. Being an all or nothing kind of person is difficult because mentally, I feel that if I can't do "all" of the workouts in a rotation, that I have somehow failed. I now realize that this is not true.

- I am getting back into ST after months of not being consistent and have to gradually build my endurance/strength or I will burnout

- If I overdo my workouts the "dread" factor will set in and I won't want to do them.

- I may not be "physically" able or even want to do all of the workouts in a rotation, be it P90X, Cathe, etc., but I can always substitute and still get in a great workout in that is just as effective "for me".

- That I can't rush this process of losing weight, building muscle, etc.; I didn't gain this weight overnight, although it seems like I did emoticon and accept that it will take time and know that it will happen & I will eventually be able to say emoticon.

... so when I am feeling like I am not making progress this quote puts things in perspective emoticon

    Jazzid, I have been watching C-Span with my wife and was a little down the last three days because of all the bickering in Congress. I did not do any P90x workouts for the last 3 days. I needed some motivation and went back over my Spark page and saw your comments from last July. Thanks. I also have been modifying my routines to suit me so don't worry about whether you can't do all the the pushup or chin-up variations. I figured I could still complete P90x by Thanksgiving if I skip the 7th day of rest a few times; but I will just slow down and start week 6 all over Monday, if your still interested in buddying up with me. I don't mind it that you will be substituting other routines for P90x routines on occasion as I have been just skipping some of them. I like your last poster, good to take it one day at a time. emoticon

    I agree with you. To be honest, I can't do hardly any workouts from start to finish without substituting for them as my doctor has all kinds of rules of what I am not allowed to do and I won't risk permanent injury. That being said, I do what I can and don't worry about the rest.

    The first attempt at P90X is always the hardest! You are doing a great job. Just listen to your body and modify as you need to with other workouts. emoticon emoticon
