Am I ever having fun!

Last spring I started a tree fort for Johnny (GS, 4-yrs-old) by putting 2 x 6's from tree-to-tree-to-tree and planning like fury what to do next. Johnny doesn't visit all that often and in high summer he was happy with the pool, no thought of the tree fort. Procrastinator King that I am, I didn't do anything more about the tree fort.
*But*. . .
. . . I put a time-delay-firecracker under My Self at Johnny's last visit by telling him I'd have the fort done if he came to visit for Thanksgiving, knowing full well he'd be here, Thanksgiving weekend also being my birthday weekend. Well, that's now just days away, so this week I've been building the tree fort. I've got a 12' x 12' platform built about 5' off the ground, decked and with the frame for side palisades. There's a 'secret' entry up one of the corner tree-trunks and I've got a couple of huge appliance-crate houses I'd made for Johnny's cousins a number of years ago (who says you should throw away old boxes????) that I will resurrect and place inside the palisade for hide-outs.
Johnny will love it for all of 15 minutes but it'll be an indelible part of his memories of visits to "G & G's" (Grandma and Grandad's) and by next summer, when he's old enough to appreciate more sophistication, I'll have put a more permanent structure inside the palisade for hide-outs, sleep-outs and getting-away-from-adults-outs : )
Best of all? The SparkPeople Fitness Tracker allows that "Construction" burns a swack of calories, especially when you go at it for hours at a time : )
Life is good.
