Next big challenge

What a year it's been. Not much new progress to report. In fact, I'm sitting upon a well-earned plateau. That I can deal with.

As with many of you, we've been facing financial issues for well over a year now. Recently several things have come to near crisis and I've decided to take on a second job. It's not the first time I've worked two jobs, though I really hoped never to have to again. I've got a second interview tomorrow for a part-time job. It will keep me on my feet, literally, and fill a hole in the family finances. But it means very long days and rushed meals. It will also mean working most weekends, so I won't really get any days off to rest.

None of that is to say that the road to a healthy lifestyle is impossible. It just sometimes takes unexpected and unwelcome turns. I read an article today in which John Maxwell quotes Kevin Myers saying "Everyone is looking for a quick fix, but what they really need is fitness. People who look for easy solutions stop doing what's right as soon as pressure is relieved. People who pursue fitness do what they should no matter what." Maxwell adds "Losers don't lose because they focus on losing: They lose because they focus on just getting by."

I choose fitness.
