Day 13 Intermittent Fasting (IF) Journal

Monday, October 07, 2013

Stopped eating at 7:45 PM last night and had my 1st meal at 12:15 PM, a 16.5 hr IF. I was mildly to moderately hungry when I started eating. I ate 2246 calories and burned 470 via exercise. For exercise I did 45 min Zumba + 70 min yin yoga. I had a fairly busy day with the highlight being a massage. I've been exercising a lot and my muscles appreciated the rub down.

@Mzzchief, I sympathize! A note about calories: Most people underestimate the calories they eat and overestimate the calories they burn. I try to be as accurate as possible, and am very good about recording everything. When in doubt, such as restaurant food, I intentionally lean toward overestimation. For almost all exercise, I estimate calories burned between 3-7 per minute. Light swimming and gentle yoga = 3, walking (3.3-3.5 mph) or vinyasa yoga = 4, moderate aerobics 5 or 6, weight training 5, difficult cardio 6 or 7. I do not go by what the machines say, as they usually overestimate. So, most workouts only burn 180-420 calories per hr, in my conservative estimation. I do believe in the set-point theory, or at least it seems to hold true for me. Usually when running a calorie deficit, our hunger ramps up to meet the needs of our body at its current size. It is such a tough problem and very hard to stick to a very low calorie diet. I have not been restricting calories. As you see, my average is just under what it was before starting IF. I have been more mindful not to eat when not hungry.

It will be interesting to see if you lose weight when you're eating over 2000 calories a day.
I have to keep my calories under 1500 AND work out for me to maintain.

To lose I've gotta do 900-1000 AND exercise... which is why I'm not losing since that's really difficult for me to do....
