So excited!

Monday, October 07, 2013

It's been months since I made a post. I figured that most of the people on SP who read blogs, would not have read anything new, so why should I add to the virtual 'clutter'?

I will say that while I had gained a few pounds back after losing 11 pounds, I have now lost about 12 pounds. I can't say I've been really good. I don't exercise a bunch, but I am really consistent about tracking what I eat...good and bad (which seems to be creeping back a bit more lately). Part of that mentality has to with work stress, or should I say lack of work stress. We lost one of our GI docs, so I work less hours. Hopefully things will pick up here in a few months.

Enough about my trying times! Let's get to the excitement in my life!

I have started the journey too become a living kidney donor. I have thought about it for a good while now, and finally took the first step last week. I found a website, which gave me a list of transplant centers in CA that do the procedure. From there, I was able to pick a hospital near (relatively, since I live in the boonies) to where I am. I went to their website and filled out an their online health questionnaire. That was on the 5th, I think.

I just got a call a few minutes ago from them! She called to set up a phone interview, which will take place tomorrow. Luckily I have the day off. She told me that it would take about an hour, and it was basically to go over the information I provided to them on the questionnaire.

I've done quite a bit of research on the whole process, and so far, I don't have too many questions. We'll see what I can come up with!

I imagine that some of you are wondering why I'm posting this here, on SP, as opposed to posting it on a blog elsewhere. Well, there are a few reasons. Firstly, I don't have another blog anywhere. Secondly, I only told my other about this yesterday, and only in passing to a coworker. Eventually, I will probably post about it on FB maybe.

I thought I would post here because it is giving me some drive to eat better and exercise! While I know for sure that living donation isn't for everyone; I figured it can't hurt to tell others about it, as I continue my process of getting healthy, regardless of whether I actually ever donate my kidney.

So, if you'd like to follow along, welcome! If not, I hope your minute of reading this at least got you thinking!

Awesome! I was actually called to donate after registering, but I was preggers at the time, so I couldn't pursue it. I hope I get another chance-- what a precious gift, Tiny RN!!! And also a great way to motivate yourself to care for your body, too :-)
