Our walking Buddies celebrated our anniversary later as planned.

Saturday, September 28, 2013

As soon as they heard about "PATIENCE"they asked us if DH and I wanted to go to see it performed. We said Yes.
For our Wedding anniversary we only wanted our small dispersed family to be together. Our walking Buddies sent us tickets for today's performance and they accompanied us..

DH and I loved the show. It opened in London England on April 23rd, 1881 it was Gilbert and Sullivan's sixth collaboration and it was the Fifth produced by Richard D'Oyley Carte.
Carte was about to complete Construction of the Savoy Theatre in London's West End.
Six months after it's opening the successful production of "Patience "was transferred to the Savoy where it became the first theatrical production to be lighted by Electricity.

The Theater is in Monmouth Maine is very close to our home and closer still to IMAGINPRO one of my Spark Friends.

The Hall was built in 1900 it was named for Dr,Charles Cumston he was the headmaster of Boston Latin High School, he retired to Monmouth Maine. He decided to give his town a community building, which would house the town offices, a caucus hall, a public library and an Auditorium.

It was revitalized beginning in 2000 and recently finished with monies donated from the community to the tune of $2.9 Million dollars.
It is a gem in Maine.
There are several Shakespeare performances during the year along with plays, performances for children and and the actors come from all over the country as well as local actors.

Over the years we have lived here, we too have seen the changes. When we first took our son's to Summer stock, kids shows there were portable toilets out side. The boys were not impressed.
We still went to see adult theater despite the inconvenience. Now they have "Indoor plumbing" and new seats. There are very few props or scenery and yet it is not really noticeable the actors are the focus of the stage. There are no microphones but the sound just carries thanks to great acoustics.

After the performance our friends took us out to dinner and it was a really nice "friends celebration "of our 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. WE WERE TOASTED WITH WINE AND COFFEE and it was a good evening.

Thanks, I am still taking care of my Peepers. Tomorrow I will use the drops every 2 hours till I see the Dr on Tuesday.

Pat, I am very happy that you and DH had such a great time with your walking friends. It was really nice of them to buy the tickets for you and also go with you to see the performance at the wonderful Cumston Hall in Monmouth. It was also very nice of them to takke you out to eat and also include a celebration for your 50th Wedding Anniversary too. It sounds like you had a very good night.

Cumston Hall is such a wonderful historical place in Monmouth. The revitalization was a very good thing that the residents and town officials all agreed upon. They also during the revitalization sold all of the seats to interested members of the public. That was a very terrific fundraiser to get some of the monies needed.

We have gone to some of the plays and also went to see Tim Sample, who is a Comedian here in Main. Living here in Monmouth is really nice. I also love being so close to Cumston Hall and the Library that is also housed in it.

I am very happy that you are still taking good care of your eyes. I hope that all goes well at the doctors on Tuesday.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Best wishes

    Love Dot

    Pat ,

What good friends you have to take you to the theater for your 50th Wedding Anniversary. Such a great time you all had.

I hope your ordeal with your eyes doesn't last too long. You have certainly had your share of eye troubles.....

We had a huge storm move through yesterday with hurricane like winds. Jody and I ran out the downstairs kitchen door and grabbed the cushions off the covered patio furniture before they got too wet. We got plenty wet ourselves from the blowing rain. We got four inches of rain in about two hours so there was a lot of puddling in the lower streets. We are on a hill but did get puddles out back on the sidewalk along the gardens. I was a little concerned it might come under the door but evidently the door sash is tight. More rain today although not as violent.

    Have a good day.

So glad that you had a good evening, celebrating your 50th year together yet again! You can't celebrate that too often, my friend! The theatre sounds absolutely wonderful, a real diamond in the countryside! Good friends are the best, aren't they? Sometimes I feel as if our friends are family, we have such a good time when we get together. Good job on continuing to care for your eyes. I was thinking the drops are now every 2 hours? That has to be a little better. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Amazing... 50 years! I'm so glad your walking friends take care of you. They really are family for you. The bit of history was great about the show. I always enjoy remembering how things were. We are so very fortunate. Have a great day today and good for you for staying "quiet".

I'm so glad to read about this! I love the G & S lyrics and music:

    "Let me confess!
A languid love for lilies does not blight me!
Lank limbs and haggard cheeks do not delight me!
I do not care for dirty greens By any means.
I do not long for all one sees That's Japanese.
I am not fond of uttering platitudes In stained-glass attitudes.
    In short, my mediaevalism's affectation,
Born of a morbid love of admiration" emoticon
