4 KGS OF WEIGHT LOST!
Well, I never! Wowee! Yippee! Yahoo!
Don't you love that word Crikey - the famous word of the late Steve Irwin, the Australian wildlife warrior. The Irwin's zoo is about a 20 minutes drive from where I live and is a great day out. Steve was certainly a fair dinkum aussie, There, that's my aussie slang outburst for the day, now back to business!
The business of losing weight :)
I still have sooooo much food around the house - the pantry, fridge, freezer AND chest freezer in the garage are all full of food..... mainly good and healthy foods, but lots of. I almost don't know where to start. I mentioned earlier one of my strategies to lose weight is to stop hoarding food around the house and not buy another single thing to bring into the house if I already have it in the house. No more of buying 3-4 of the same item just because it is on special and then feeling overwhelmed because 'abundance' has gone from a good to a bad feeling once the items are home and stashed away.
My fridge (which is only a few months old) has started to freeze some items at the back only because the air couldn't circulate because it was so full inside!! I've been working on that over the past week and eating mainly from the fridge and it is looking a whole lot emptier and I need to learn to keep it that way. It's healthy for the fridge and it's healthy for me if I do so.
It's interesting that I don't hoard anywhere else in the house - in fact I'm quite the opposite - I only hoard food items. Oh and clothing is hard for me to part with....
I feel a whole lot lighter because I cleaned out the freezer of all the meals I had made and froze over the past months - some I recognised as dating back to the beginning of the year - it's that same mentality of hoarding - I cook up a huge batch of food and then freeze it in portions so there is no wastage, but then I can't get through it all because I'm busily making my next batch of food to freeze! Well I cleaned out the lot - 90% of it was vegetable soup, so I just emptied those frozen containers into my lush garden to melt away. The stuff with meat in it went to the dogs. I must have pulled out at least 20 containers from that freezer all full of frozen food.
It now feels great to just have my wonder soup frozen in there + other stuff (meat etc) that I don't feel overwhelmed about.
I also completely cleaned out my entire pantry and stacked everything together and placed items where they should go and now I have a really good handle on what is in there.
I now eagerly await the weekly specials catalog's from the big grocery stores in my area, which I now view online so when I go into the store I already have a specific list to buy from and I don't stray from that list. It takes less time to do it this way and it is lighter on my wallet.
The moral to the story is PLAN AND BE PREPARED!
So all in all I am really knocking this area of my life on the head and feeling absolutely great about it.
Tomorrow I will be going to the markets in my area to buy the weekly fruit and veg. It's been a long time since I did this, but with the new health focus I'd much rather eat the produce from the fresh market, then the grocery stores. It is also exceptionally cheap in comparison! I'll scout through my cupboard and find my trolley on wheels and my backpack and off I'll go!
HI HO! Hi HO!
This morning I'm putting the slow cooker on once I find a great vegetable and chicken recipe off the net and hitting that treadmill hard today! It has also just started to rain here, WOW, we need that right now.
Have fun everyone.
PS My name is Karen and I'm a food hoardster.....
