Why a Blog on Intermittent Fasting?

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I have decided to blog about my experiences with intermittent fasting (IF) for at least 30 days. IF has many reputed benefits and introductory info can be found on the practice on the internet or in books. This blog will share my personal experiences as I fast for an average of 14 or more continuous hrs per day and eat within 10 or fewer hrs per day. IF is not a "diet." IF is an eating pattern where all calories are eaten within a shortened window of time each day. I have done IF on and off but am just now blogging about it. I just got back from a long vacation to Alaska yesterday. This effected my eating and exercise patterns somewhat, but I am now back home in my normal environment. I am interested in hearing of other people's IF experiences as well.

You are doing great, Kathy! I would be thrilled to lose 8 lb in 2 mo. That is a lot for me. I find it hard to lose more than 0.5 lb per week even with a very strict "conventional" diet and lots of exercise. I usually do more exercise than I've done since starting this blog.

Berry4, exactly right! Great observation! Constant access to food is NOT a plus for many people and the idea that people go into "starvation mode" immediately upon not eating for a few hrs is ludicrous. It also makes no sense to me to force myself to eat when not hungry.

I have been doing The Fast Diet ( IF) for about two months. I am down almost 8 pounds, and had some blood work done. My triglycerides dropped 75 points since March.

I had a few headaches at first, but a Sparkfriend recommended getting lots of fluids, so I have. I drink an iced coffee in the morning, and about 4ish I will have a piece of string cheese or 100 cal packet of almonds. Dinner is some lean protein and lots of vegetables. I still count my calories on my "fed" days and keep them in the 1200-1600 range.

I was surprised and pleased to find I can do my spinning classes and running on the days I am fasting as well. I feel GREAT!!!
    Good luck to you.

Sometimes, just changing our constant food access and intake can benefit the body systems. Less can be "more"...
