Laying seige to my fanny

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Well, Sparkpeeps, it seems that water-weight gain is not the issue, because I have been trying to flush it away for two days with water and grapefruit juice, and it is going NOWHERE. As a matter of fact, I weighed in this morning at 291. Up seven pounds since last week. I have looked at my caloric intake, my exercise, and all that, and I can't make heads or tails of it. I'm doing what I'm supposed to, and the opposite effect is occuring.

I suppose I could say "screw it" and go back to eating whatever I want. But I'm not going to. I suppose I could have a ginormous pity party and not exercise, but I'm not going to. I've already TRIED those things, and they don't work!!!

So I'm going to look at it from another angle: I went from 400 exercise minutes in a month to 250-300 per week in the last two weeks. I biked four days in a row, hiked, did ST, and all that. Perhaps my body has gone into shock and is all inflamed. Maybe my muscles are swollen and they're just hanging on for dear life because the crazy lady who owns them decided to get off the couch and get moving.

Maybe it's my inner Neanderthal hunkering down, thinking it's a time of famine, or it's my inner three-year-old digging in because it doesn't LIKE to change. Who knows. I don't. All I know is that my weight has laid seige, and I have to figure out a way to get rid of the invading army. Hopefully the invading army will get bored and go home.

Maybe I should taunt them. IN FRENCH!!!!!

I have to remind myself sometimes I have NO control over what the scale does - I can only control what I do. You're keeping an eye on your nutrition and have upped your exercise (the things you CAN do). Those healthy choices will pay off, it will just take time. (In the meantime the taunts - in French - can't hurt!).

did not know increasing activity leads to weight gain but the great feeling you get after exercise is worth it

That must be so frustrating ... but it sounds like you have the right attitude. I haven't experienced a dramatic spike quite like that before, but I have heard that when implementing new exercise habits sometimes the scale initially goes up. I like how you focus on the solution rather than the problem. While initially therapeutic, whining about the problem gets us nowhere!

Also big congrats on all the changes you have implemented. I'm glad you acknowledged your progress, and I think long-term only good things can come of it!
