I lost a pound this week. And I'm happy about that. It's one thing to know that if you work out and eat well you'll lose weight, it's another thing to see the reverse - how if you don't eat quite as well or work out quite so much, you don't get the same results. It's a good reinforcement.
Today, in our Weight Loss Challenge meeting, there was a question on the form. What didn't work for you the last time you tried to lose weight? What's going to be different this time?
I think I know mine. The first time I lost a lot of weight, 40 lbs, was the first time I ever lost weight and I had a splurge day, my weigh-in day. I could eat whatever I wanted, all day. At future points I tried changing that to one meal. And now? I'm not going to wait for a special time to indulge myself a little. If I'm craving chicken nuggets, I'm going to eat chicken nuggets - I'm just going to make sure that it's okay in my calorie range, etc.
I'm a binge eater. When I'm going to splurge, I have it in my head that I'm going to SPLURGE. And that's not how I want to live my life. So instead of just limiting my splurges, which allows me to fall back into the bad habit of splurging all the time when I'm not watching what I eat, I'm just going to embrace moderation.
No, I may not lose as much as people who are cutting carbs completely and going psycho about this thing. Winning after 10 weeks isn't the most important thing to me, I want to win for life.
