3rd 5K For the Year

Monday, September 23, 2013

I completed my 3rd 5K yesterday for the year, and it was so good! The first thing was it cooled down, so we ran in the low 80s, not the usual 90 -100 range. The run was overall (or should I say my running) was great! I didn't get to train like I wanted due to a quad injury, and was worried about making it all the way through. At no point did I feel like I did in the other ones, that I would have to stop running and take a walking break. I knew in my heart that I could make it through, and I did! There is something so motivating about running a race. Each person that I pass makes me feel stronger and more accomplished. I have been that person that had to stop and take a break, the person that feels the race will never end.

When I finally turned and saw the finish line, I kicked it into high gear. I never had the power to do that before, and really push myself at the end. For the other races, I was literally dragging myself across. This time, I had energy to spare! I crossed the line, sweat pouring everywhere down my face, eyes burining, trying to locate my husband and my daughters, and it was wonderful! This is also my first race that I completed where I didn't feel sick to my stomach at the end, and also where I didn't feel exhausted all day. That is some serious progress to me!

I don't have another race planned this year, but after yesterday's experience, I do need to look into getting at least one more in before the new year.
