Spinning was fun!

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Well spinning class was pretty fun last night. I got there about 10 minutes early to meet the instructor who happened to be a sub. New style of bike than I used last time but I was able to get it adjusted without any help. Which was good since the there were 3 other people who had never been in a spinning class before. It was a ton of out of the saddle stuff which is what I was hoping for. That is one area I need a lot of work on the road bike and one of the reasons I knew I would make it to spin class eventually. The legs feel fine today although my lower back is sore. I am sure that is simply due to using muscles I am not used to using as opposed to doing any damage. Tonight’s workout is a walk to the gym and my lifting routine. So that should work it out I hope

At the end of the class I stayed to chat with the instructor about it, and she complimented me and was impressed with how I stayed with it all for the first time spinning in a long time. She also said she saw me sneaking in bumps in the tension on the bike and seemed pretty impressed by that also. So, it was a good class and I just home the back pain goes away and I am sure it will. Just 2 things I wish about the spinning. One, that the instructor from last night was a regular one at our gym location instead of just subbing, she did really good and made the class fun and 2, that they had more class time choices. I can pretty much only make Monday evening classes, since Saturdays are super early and Wednesday is at 5:30 and I have to close the office at 5 so I can’t really make it in time. So at least for now, I will be going on Mondays for spinning and using it as a tool to switch up the routine some and to keep it interesting.

I did blow it on the drinking last night and had a few more than I should have. The game was fun to watch for a change and my Bengal’s won. But I knew going in that would be the case and I think I have gotten the mentality back that I will have times when I won’t do as well as other. So it just means I keep up the work and move on from there.

Oh how fun that you had such a great spin class! Sounds like the instructor was really good at it too and encouraging to boot. Ahhh-- nothing like a good sweaty workout to make us feel so good. :) Impressive.

    Thanks for sharing your success!

I totally agree with you. I was doing well with allowing myself times to have fun and let the guard down so to speak, and not beating myself up over it. That changed when I got back from the cruise. I was reverting to old ways. I think I have it back and am not willing to let an indulgent evening ruin a week. Like i had started.

Bottom line is we are all a work in progress. We will get there as long as we keep at it and don't let ourselves quit. And I know at least for me I need to learn to be easier on myself when I slide. I read an article on Spoark that we wouldn't treat our friends like we do ourselves and some of the mental bashing we do and it is sooooo true. So, what I am trying to do is acknowledge that it happened. And that it will happen. And move on.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the class...and your right it is a great to break up the routine. I've learned something from "skinny" people that I need to apply to game days or other events. Is they overeat at times too, they just adjust for it by getting in some extra exercise or reducing their calories over the next few days. I think it's just so easy for us to get into that all or nothing thinking or thinking that we've been bad because we've had a few extra whatever's. As always, I'm a work in progress!
