The Clean Your Plate Club

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

How many of you are members of the Clean Your Plate Club? As a child your parents fixed your plate and then you were told you will sit there until you eat everything on your plate! Think of all the starving children in the world! The way I look at it Children get full too! My father was the worst. We had to eat it even if we didn't like it. Children have taste buds! If you want to clean your plate don't put so much food on it to start with. Isn't it better to finish a small amount than to force yourself to eat this huge amount of food that two people couldn't finish? That is the beginning of our bad eating habits. And we all know habits are hard to break. BTW I have the fattest dog on the whole island of Aruba, she loves leftovers. lol

As a Mom I would usually finish what my kids didn't. That adds up over the years. I was talking to a friend who had a baby one year ago yesterday. She has lost all her baby weight plus some. I asked how she was doing it. She told me that one of the things she does when they eat out is order one plate of food and shares with her baby. If the baby likes it then she gets most of it and Momma eats less. This way she isn't spending money on two meals and wasting food. I usually take what's left from a night out home and it it for breakfast the next morning. I also learned that some restaurants will let you order half the meal. It isn't something they advertise but if you ask they will.

The clean your plate club is a double pronged issue. We never wasted food at our house so nobody else put food on my plate but once it was on the plate, it was eaten. I almost always take home a doggie bag when I eat at a restaurant and feel great that I get two meals for the price of one. BUT if it can't go home or if I am home, I eat the whole dang platefull. I know that I'm a big girl and I am responsible for my own choices but a lifetime of deprivation has created some interesting issues in several aspects of my life!
