Veggie Tales...

Monday, September 09, 2013

I have just accomplished something I have probably never done in my life {unless you count soup.} I ate 3 different kinds of veggies with lunch. 4 if you count the slice of tomato on my samich. I had carrots, cauliflower and cucumber with hummus. I won't lie and say it was as tasty as potato chips... but it was pretty good, and a HELL of a lot healthier!

I've been rereading this diabetes book I read last year. I have read a lot of diabetes books, and a lot of health books in general, and this one is, by far, the best one I've ever read. The advice is so sensible and logical. It doesn't suggest you do anything bizarre or make any bizarre kind of rules. Just simple, straightforward, un-bizarre information to help control diabetes and lose weight. In the book, the first goal is to eat 5 servings of veggies {not veggies and fruit, just veggies}. It also said 7 is even better. So I'm going to focus on eating more veggies, which will hopefully make me eat less of everything else.

The only flaw in this plan is that I don't care much for veggies, unless they're dipped in 3 tons of hummus or coated in cheese or butter. Obviously none of those are going to work for weight loss. I've been told that I will begin to crave them, so here's hoping! In the mean time, I'm eating raw veggies with a little bit of hummus {as opposed to the whole tub!} and using spray butter and Parmesan to make the cooked veggies taste yummy. I'm gonna try the theory I had yesterday, though, of adding a little bit of something yummy to the veggies, and cut back on the carbs. I think I'm going to have spinach with my dinner tonight {which will be cabbage lasagne, which is also wonderfully vegetable-ly}, so I'll saute the spinach in just a little bit of olive oil to make it yummy.

In additional news, I've lost a total or 6.1 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I'm pretty excited about that. It was 4 lbs the first week, and 2 this week, so it has slowed down to a more reasonable pace. I'll be positively joyous if I can lose 2 lbs a week! But no need to stress about upcoming weigh ins... Today is for CELEBRATING that I had a loss this week! I was so afraid that, with the 4 am eating, I would have shown no loss, or possibly even gained. I know the scale isn't everything... but if I'm already gaining on week 2, that isn't good!

For any of you Type 2 people, have you had any experience with the drug Invokana? It's new, and supposed to help control blood sugar and help you lose weight. Or at least that's what the article about it in a Diabetes magazine said. I looked it up online and found some info, but I was wondering if anyone has tried it? I'm going to mention it to my endo when I see him/her on the 24th. I was on Victoza, and it controlled my appetite a bit for a while, but it stopped working, so I stopped taking it. I'd love to find something else that might help, though. It's so frustrating to work so hard to lose weight and have my diabetes {insulin in particular} fighting against me!

No exercise today. My back is still bothering me, and it's hotter than the 7th circle of hell, so I'm just relaxing inside today. It's going to cool down toward the end of the week and I will get my butt out there and get moving. Hopefully my back will be feeling better by then.

And... nothing else to report. Boring day. The friend I talk to all day while she's at work called off today, so it has been a long day. Hope everyone's week is getting off to a good start!
