Whow...Has it Been That Long

Saturday, September 07, 2013

I truly love Spark People and my Spark Friends....but I have been having computer problems....worse that before. I finally got it to work but it comes and goes...lots of pop ups....and if I delete them then my computer crashes.

Sorry but that is why I have not been on here.

I went to WV to see my family especially my Mom....she is still in the Nursing Home and is doing ok. Still has issues with UTI which is caused by not getting enough to drink...water. They don't offer it only at meal time and snack time. So she is dehydrated. If I have learned anything on Spark People it is drink your Water!!!

My trip was short.....and sweet because my DD and Grandsons needed to get back to school and work. The time spent with Mom was special. Keep her in your prayers.

Love the cartoon! I'm sorry about your mom. A nursing home really should be pushing water, not limiting it. Elderly get dehydrated very easily and don't always realize they are thirsty. Then dehydration can cause (among other things) confusion and some who don't have dementia are initially diagnosed with it because the real issue is dehydration. In the mid 90's I worked on a psychiatric unit at a general hospital (small town) and I know there were several times when elderly were admitted to our unit because of confusion or hallucinations and all they were was dehydrated. Now I do service coordination for elderly and disable on certain categories of Medicaid, and some of my patients are in their own homes or homes of family but some are in nursing homes and I see the various complication they can develop, including frequent UTI's or symptoms described above because they just don't realize they are thirsty or not drinking enough. So the nursing home should really be making an effort to encourage water. Sorry, but sometimes things I see in nursing homes upset me, even though I know that there are times when people have to be in one. My mom, when she was alive, was in one for 2 months after she broke her femur and that was before I started working at my current job. Hope she continues to get better and also gets the things she needs to avoid other unnecessary complications. I'm glad you got the chance to go see her. Hope your computer starts acting better.

Glad you're still alive and kickin'! Will say a prayer for your mom and hope the staff at the nursing home (which should know better) will make sure their residents get enough fluids.
