Too hot to knit!

Saturday, September 07, 2013

It was ninety degrees before noon, and it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow! Right now I can't think about my afghan, let alone handle it. Even though it's in narrow strips at the moment, it's a dense knit that's going to be very warm when done. "Very warm" is something I don't need any more of right now.

I went out to the bank this morning to get a cashier's check for my rent (landlord won't take checks after the third) and told the rental office that I wanted to renew my lease. They couldn't because their printer is broken and won't be fixed until Wednesday. They're making a list of which tenants come in when and we can renew next weekend with the low rate locked in because the printer isn't our fault. So next Saturday I'll go in and renew.

When I got back from the errands I intended to have another cup of coffee but it's just too hot. I opened a cold lime seltzer instead and put the leftover coffee in a container in the fridge. When I'm done here I'm going over to Food Network's website and search "coffee custard."

Last night I at least got the nasty food off of the top shelf of the fridge. Today I'm finally getting the dishwasher emptied and the dirties into it. And I'm FINALLY getting the spaghetti sauce into the crock pot so it can cook all afternoon and not heat up my kitchen.

Monday is back to the salt mine. Oh, well...

Whoever invented the crock pot has my profound thanks, mine gets a work-out a lot.
I find it great for making enough to freeze meals for days when i haven't decided
    what to serve.

Hi Mary, I agree with you as I live in Southern CA and it's still like an oven here at 7 pm, hot and humid with triple digits all last week and not going to cool off until Tuesday. So, like you it's pretty miserable weather and wouldn't want to get all my sweat on the pretty afghan your knitting. My niece just moved to Chico, CA. Do you live anywhere near there. So far they love it there very rural and a small town compared to here. She and her BF will be PT students at the College and both will work. I can't believe how much cheaper their nice big apartment is as honestly it would be almost twice that much here. I told her today if it wasn't for my 2 GC I'd consider moving there also. I'd love to live in a more rural small town. . .but, I know it's full of students and they'd think I was so old as it must be a young person's town, if you know what I mean. Enjoy your evening and Sunday. I love coffee and in this weather I just make instant and put some ice and a little Stevia sweetener in it and it's so delicious and helps cool me off.

    Hugs & Love,

I know the feeling of it being too hot to work on an afghan. I crochet mine in the cooler months, but occasionally I start one on my summer vacation. In that case, I'll sit in front of a big fan so the yarn flows nicely!! Of course Hubby thinks I'm crazy at that point but he just doesn't understand how long it takes from start to finish.

I love the Food Netrwork. We seem to have lots in common.

So glad to hear you got the good rate locked in! emoticon It's one less "day-to-day living" concern, isn't it? Those tend to pile up and start to exert a heavy pall of oppressive worry on a person over time... The cold lime seltzer sounded so wonderfully refreshing! That's one beverage I really miss - I'm limited to four, eight-ounce glasses of liquids a day for medical reasons, and cold lime seltzer is a marvelous antidote to mugginess. Let us know how the cold coffee custard comes out (mmmm!) if you make it... emoticon

Definitely not right for knitting. We're looking forward to another week of 90 + days ahead here so I guess it's time to plan "lazy days cooking". emoticon

Wow, that's hot! It's still warm here, but the nights are really cooling off, so it's starting to feel a little more like fall. Hope it turns cooler there, soon!
